I have a Vista Install CD. The CD drive on my 2.2GHz MBP has died. (motor works, but not reading. suggestions? but not the purpose of this thread)

I have a vista iso. i've read how to use diskpart to transfer it to a 1 partition USB stick. however, I have a 1TB external with two partitions. the first is HFS+ and the 2nd partition is FAT32. i formatted it and copied the vista iso contents onto it, made the partition active, copied the boot info to it (D:\boot\bootsect.exe /nt60 G:).

however, it's not recognized when i hold down the option key. my leopard iso that i copied to the first partition on my external HDD shows up fine. the 2 internal partitions (leopard and vista) show up. but the 2nd partition with the vista CD contents does not show up. I assume i have missed a step as this is the 2nd partition.

I find HDDs to be more reliable, so it would be preferable to have this vista install/recovery disk on my HDD, but if it is necessary, i will buy a 4gb (or more) flash drive.
