Forcing Resolution Changes

I've got a Motion Computing J3400 running Leopard smoothly except for one major issue: the display is not the correct resolution. Under the Display preference pane the only resolution that shows up is 1024x768, but since the tablet has a widescreen display the proper resolution is 1280x800. This causes everything to be stretched out.

I was wondering if there is any way to force OS X to use another resolution.

EDIT: I should mention that the graphics card is an Intel GMA 4500MD.

we are very sorry that we havent emailed you the answer for your question.

FOR GOD SEARCH SEARCH SEARCH

I have done LOTS of searches and I haven't found anything that worked. One solution actually forced me to do a total re-instal of the OS. I know about SwitchResX, it doesn't work. I also found another application (I can't remember the name, it had a green icon…) and it killed the OS. I have been doing my own personal searches, but because I couldn't find anything else I figured "Hey, I'll post of at InsanelyMac! They have lots of users who may have some ideas that I haven't tried yet".

I too have tried many different methods too try and get this working, none have worked. I too have had to re-install Leopard multiple times. SwitchResX doesn't work for me, other methods I've seen do nothing or completely destroy the OS, forcing me to re-install. Below is my graphics/display info:

Anyone have an answer?

Yeah.

Teh ansewer is, the Intel 4500 chipsets aren't supported, just like the other 15 threads about this exact same topic would have told you if you used the search.

Thank you. But the reason for this thread is because all the others just seem to leave it at that "They aren't supported". All I was wondering is to what extent: not supported in any-way-shape-or-form, not supported but there are hacks, or (preferably) this [link] works 100% of the time.

Maybe I missed the thread that said why they won't work or what other people have tried or if there is any effort to create drivers for this chip set.

Thanks for your answer though, I will now totally give up… no not really, I'm just going to be slightly annoyed with my screen.
