HP DV6000 (AMD) F.42 Bios w/ Whitelist Disabled

I came across the infamous "Error 104 - Unsupported Wireless Device" Putting my Intel 4695 ABGN wireless card in the DV6000 when i went to steal the wireless adapter so i could put the nice BCM4311 in my Dell XPS M1710 to have native airport support.

Since all i found were AMD users in my boat wishing to change there wireless adapter to something with out the HP Subsystem id. And no one wishing to help out the amd crowd, either from lack of ability to test, the lack of know how for amd bios's, or the lack of ambition to do so for the DV6000 series I decided to patch this bios white list out.

I wish i could find an Insyde bios unpacker so i can do the same for the new C7xx serices compaq since i own one as well. but no luck.

anyways my rambling aside, here it is fully tested and working. ive tried 2 intel cards that were not on HP's list obviously and they both boot with out the dreaded error 104 and both install under windows 7 perfect, since i dont have OSX on the Dv6000.

report back if you have issues please.

Please let me know if this helped you as well.

hi

i have hacked the dv6000 amd bios

check here

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...amp;pid=1106994

with your hack you can attach a intel wireless card?

i thought intel wireless cards fail on amd machines...

wich card have you tested? 3945/4965 ?

acording to this page

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwar...product=3667489

latest version is F.32 at least for my pc

the bios for Compaq Presario V6205NR are here

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwar...116&lang=en

seems to have both intel and amd bios

intel is F.42 and amd is f.3D

intel 4965 ABN works. its in my 6000 right now, 2200 does as well. but 3945 does not detect. This i bios F.42 which is the latest for the AMD DV6XXX series. downloaded it from hp for my DV6000 submodle, via hp software update. its also whats flashed on my dv6000 right now qith the intel 4965 in it. its possible f.42 could be a hybrid, dont know. But i do know F.42 is for my amd, because the system board id's match.

hi, TJE

thanks for answering

can you tell me wath file and what pice of code you have changed?

maybe i can hack my bios version like you did with yours

I just changed the F9 byte to an F8, suggested some where els on these forums to remove the white list.

the file was BIOSCOD1.ROM

look for the bytes F9EB01F8 they are a line or 2 above the pci device ids change that F9 to F8, rebuild the bios and the white list should be gone.

as for the intel cards not working on amd. i dont know it could be prossesor or chipset specific.

:) we made the same hack

so you're using a intel bios?

i only changed f9->f8 on my bios hack

maybe i've wrong dissasembled your version

but i found 3 moded files:

bioscode1.rom (changed f9 to f8)

romexec (changes at 6cd0+) this is near string BCPCHP - can you explain?

bb.rom (changes at 30d3) ff change to 06 - can you explain?

in my bios version i have bioscode1.rom with code that looks close to yours

no bb.rom - i have bb.bin but with diferent code

biscode4 (or 5) as the f9 -> f8 hack

in theory there must be a way to allow my bios to accept intel cards

it does work with a "offical" apple atheros n card :)

maybe it's caused by the motherboard...

thanks

attached both of our hacks - dissassembled

ps: i crashed a hp laptop messing with insyde bios - be carefull

30B7F42.rar

30B7F42_WHITELIST_DISABLE.rar

BIOS_f31.rar

BIOS_F31_HACK.rar

it could be the board, but i did not change enything except bioscode01.rom. and as far as your the F.3D bios and the F.42, they appear to have the same mother board modle in them. so im asuming the F.42 that im using is infact amd. as for the other changes your seeing im asuming they are from being compleetly different bios rom version. they are not of my doing.

nice topic you got here

only bios hackers should allow to enter here

the only thing i can think of is i read some where on hp's website that the "d" stood for discrete what ever that means. and i know the F.3D bioss was released to solve bad heat issues with the dv series. which it did. however like i said im running F.42 which is the latest amd bios and im not having heat issues. and it came factory shipped with F.38

Hello All,

I was wondering why I can't get this to work for me. I keep getting an error telling me to make sure I am signed on as an administrator and that the "Driver" pflashnt.sys could not be loaded. Is this because I am running the 64 bit version of Windows 7? I am the administrator.

thanks,

Dave

OK Guys.... I get the feeling that I am close. but after a few days of researching this here is where I am:

I have an HP dv6607nr. AMD (2 core etc etc) sticker on screen bezel says dv6000, bottom of machine says dv6607nr sticker on bottom says dv6507nr. HP indentification utility says 6607

my current bios is f.32 (hp says that is most current)

hp softpaq for my machine is sp42853

I recently replaced my router and since I (naturally) bought an N router, I figured I would take advantage of an N card (Gigabyte ws30n) they were selling. Of course what I didn't know was that I would get the 104 error.

I am pretty confident with my computer, though (admittedly) I am weak when it comes to bios (bioses, bioss, bioi???). Anyrate... I opened up the bios with a hex editor(had it from when I flashed it with the f.32 a few months ago) but though I could find the "8086" and the other codes a few times, and the "f8/f9" string a BUNCH of times, I couldn't really find the spot that you guys are referencing to switch because I couldn't find the large group of the vendor ids together. Does anyone have a good version of the HP f.32 (sp42853) bios, or can someone help me find that spot?

Hi andz, which 802.11n broadcom card are you using in your dv9410us with the hacked F.42 bios? I want to make sure I get the right one..

hi could someone re upload this bios file please :)

Be careful, its not so obvious with HP labels. Not all DV6000 are the same base. This bios (F.42) is for the AMD dv6000 to dv6400 series. Your notebook is the AMD DV6500 to DV6900 series, so its a different motherboard and different bios. Same goes for the DV9000 series...

The post above from andz suggests he flashed his DV9410US with this bios, not his DV6625US which already supported the specific 802.11n card he has in it.

Yep, I flashed my DV9410us with that bios and if I'm not mistaken, I still have it, so PM me with an e-mail address. I'll send the file, but in NO WAY I'm responsible if anyone bricks, damages or mess up their machines! Acknowledge the last statement in your PM so I know you understand what you are doing! If I find the time, I'll look up the broadcom cards I'm using, got'em from e-bay for $30.00ea. and still working great!

Much gratitude to Andz for sending me his reworked bios - it worked perfectly.

My laptop is a HP dv9410us with system board 30B9 with the F.42 BIOS. I am now happily using my non-HP Intel 4965AGN with Windows 7. I tried my Intel 5350, but had Windows 7 driver trouble, point is, I can put in any adapter without whitelist getting in the way. Again, thank you Andz!!

With the file Andz provided, the process was novice-easy: I downloaded the F.42 bios service pack from HP and started the install. I specified a specific folder to extract the install files to. Before allowing it to do the actual BIOS update, I replaced the two .wph files in the extracted folders with the one Andz sent me (renamed them respectively) and then clicked to continue the install. Ran perfectly, rebooted with non-HP adapter and bingo - no whitelist blocking my boot-up.

Hi TJE,

I realize its been a while since you posted this, but I just found this super educational thread and want to know if you could post again the hacked bios for the DV6000 (mine is actually DV6151CL.)

The file your link points to is no longer valid. Unfortunately, the other guy you were collaborating with (jalavoui) only posted a bunch of unassembled files which are of no use to the average person. It would be great to either have the actual hacked WPH file, or the instructions on how to hack it, step by step. With the novice in mind.

Thanks for your time and effort. :-)
