Hi,

after experimenting with numerous things for trying to get my display working I found this thread: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=137076

It obviously deals with the desktop version of my card but since I'm really desperate (as I don't have the money and the skill to buy and install a mxm graphics cart into my laptop) and the display on my notebook looks exactly like the one in that thread I tried it and the result was like this:

This is what the card shows through the VGA output of the laptop on a CRT monitor. The internal screen stays black as well as an external TFT conneced to the laptop so I think it's "just" a problem of monitor timing.

I've come across a software called SwitchResX which can adjust timings really nice but I don't know how to use it and on that screen I don't wan't to play around as I can't see what I'm doing.

Thats why I ask here, If anyone of you knows how to fix that screen.

Thank you ;)

edit: CI/QE is all working, just the output is.. strange

In short ATI Mobilities are NOT SUPPORTED!!

You can try pressing whatever to halt the Darwin Bootloader and then with (IIRC) "-x" to boot into Safemode.

Deleate any ~and every~ ATI* File from (again IIRC!) /system/library/extensions then reboot.

w/luck you should have a clean 1024x768 Desktop w/no CI or QE.

Big help that was for me and my Mobility addled Amilo Pi 2550 (also a HD2400XT), also came w/an Intel 3945ABG Wi-Fi Chip. So no fecken Internet either. So it looks like I'm stuck w/either Vista or some form of Linux for now.

Upshot do your homework b4 purchasing your next Laptop...

It's not that I don't know how to get a small desktop with no CI/QE, it was just that, instead of the usual scrambled screen I got, this was the first thing in "color" i got to see from my little box. I'm not really expecting something but I'm going to try everything I can find. Sadly 1024x768 is nothing I can work with.

Well I'm sorry to hear that, personally I'd could learn to live w/1024x768 as all I'd want to do is use the Audio Book Chapter Tool for iTunes. But because I'm also stuck with this crappy WiFi Card and thus have no Internet. With no end in site of that (same story w/the HD2400XT!!).

So IMHO the lack of an Internet connection kinda kills the effort for me.
