pnag11
I got into the whole "Hackintosh" thing about 4 or 5 months ago, with a lot of googling, various board reading and a fair whack of patience, I got an iAtkos 10.5.6 install running on a dual core AMD. Much shenanigans was had getting the Belkin wireless dongle I had to work, there was a problem with graphics corruption, but again, with more reading and doing, I got there. What am I trying to get at? I didn't have to ask for help, luckily. What few problems I had were post installation, and I managed to find the answers.... This time, I've an i7 940, an ASUS p6T6 mobo and a copy of the iPC LiveDVD (10.5.6). Can I get OS X to install? Not on your nellie! Now, I'm prepared for a challenge. I don't feel I'm magically 'entitled' for this to just work - hell, it's a Mac OS on a PC! What I didn't expect was the challenge of dealing with other users of this very board... Basically, for anyone reading this in the same boat as me, don't bother asking for guides, or even a preinstall/install related question. If you don't know how to change the bootloader, or 'inject' a kext into your LiveDVD image, don't ask for a guide or help - you'll soon realise why. I could cite many examples, but the best way to put it is right at the top of the "New Releases & Updates" - a thread entitled "XxX_x86_10.5.6_Install_Disc_Universal_Final.v2". Notice the discontinued underneath. The reasoning? since now there are some free ways to install OSX from retail disks I think everybody wanting to run OSX should learn what needs to be done to have it running on a PC, get the files and do it themselves..... or go and buy a real mac." That's the spirit! We should all learn! How stupid of me! Well, over a decade ago when I was a trainee software engineer, a superior who I thought I was hassling with my 'n00b' questions replied with "It's okay - share what you know, learn what you don't". And he was right! Those two sentiments have to go together; and as it stands, this community is disappearing up its own ass. I don't expect someone to post an iso that'll magically work with just my specific mishmash of hardware, but when I posted the error message I was getting before it could even hit an install screen, the replies I got? "It has to work". "Try harder". At what, failing? There's such a huge amount of useful material on this site, and a huge amount of users trying to help, but it seems to me that for every one decent, helpful post, there's a bunch of other posts saying, "Damn n00bs, they should know this." Maybe they should. Or maybe the search needs to be re-organised, or proper generic FAQs or how-to's that can be 'linked to' used. Or maybe we all, n00b and expert alike, need to work *together*, instead of the prevailing elitism. Yeah, maybe it's just me, and I know I'm on a rant, but maybe, just maybe, it's not. booger_sniffer5000
There are many reasons why you deserve to be completely and utterly torn apart for your ignorance and stupidity. However, I will try and hold back as I don't want to hurt your feelings. First off, I read a few of your other posts, and just as I suspected, the typical give-me-help-I-can't-be-bothered-to-search-Google noob attitude was present. Please help guys, as this is driving me up the wall... iDeneb 1.3 (10.5.5) installs like a dream, and this is my spec Mobo : Asrock AliveNF4G-DVI, nForce 410MCP CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ AM2 - Northbridge: GeForce 6100, Southbridge: nForce 410 MCP RAM: TwinMOS DDR2 PC4200 2Gb HD: WDC2500BB-22GUA0 I'm using the onboard video (Integrated NV44). When installing, the options I'm using are - AMD Patch - AppleNForceATA (older version) - 9.4 kernel - Forcedeth for nForce ethernet - nVidia NVKush (as the others resulted in a video fail when viewed with -v) And all the apps. Like I said, it installed perfectly. On regular boot, I get the "restart your computer" indefinitely screen, and with the -v option I get AppleNForceATA: found 1 units AppleNForceATA: warning: phy connection failed. status=0x00000000 AppleNForceATA: found 0 units Same if I use -x for safe mode. I suspect it's the hard disk (the WD2500) but dunno about editing .kexts(?) - any help or pointers? I've read about a dozen boards at this stage, all to no avail. Please help - any and all advice appreciated. Oh please guys help me I am too incompetent to search Google help please please please!!! Give me a {censored} break. And not only do you post whiny "HELP ME" posts, but you take it to another level and post a topic about how your experience was not perfect and everybody didn't cater to your every whim when you cried for help. That's the spirit! We should all learn! How stupid of me! Well, over a decade ago when I was a trainee software engineer, a superior who I thought I was hassling with my 'n00b' questions replied with "It's okay - share what you know, learn what you don't". A community is where new people join, search around to fix what they need to, and then learn on from there, reading the forums and such. Then once they have gained knowledge, they contribute back. It DOES NOT mean posting tons of questions when you get stumped by something and then very quickly asking for help, and then ditching the forums until the next update breaks your install, which is when you come crying back to us. This is EXACTLY what ruins a community, people like YOU. Do you know how annoying it is to those who are experienced to have people ask the SAME DAMN THINGS over and over? Ask once, and let that be it! {censored}
