NOTE: Someone Deleted this topic and I am not sure why. It had been here for a few months but I am posting it again. Hope it helps. I will be adding info from what others had posted.

Using the latest IPC Universal 10.5.6 Final download - I have successfully installed on a D610 with mostly everything working. If someone thinks I should make this guide a separate thread, just PM me and I will do so.

People often ask me why I do this - Well my answer is that I have 2 iMacs, a MacBook Pro and and Mac Mini and I just love the operating system. I want to put it on all the machines that I own. I have a D600 that I will be writing a guide for next.

My D610 Specs- GMA900, 1gb ddr 667, 1.73 ghz Pentium M, Broadcom Ethernet, Intel 3945 Wireless, AC97 Audio, DVDRW Combo Drive

Please use your favorite torrent app and download iPC_OSx86_10_5_6_Universal_PPF5_Final -

Steps to Install - No Dual Boot - Pure OSX86 - INstructions have been tested multiple times. It works.

1. Boot to disk, select Language

2. Go to Tools --> Disk Utility

- Click on Drive listed on the left

- Click on Erase Tab

- Select Mac OS Extended (Journaled)

- Name your drive anything (ie. Macintosh HD)

- Click on Erase

- Close the Disk Utility

3. Press Continue

4. Select the drive you want for the install - Press Contnue

5. Click "Customize" in the lower left corner.

6. Select these options

7. Kernel - 9.5 VooDoo

8. Drivers

Video --> Intel --> GMA900 (if you have the ati card, select X3100)

Chipset --> LegacyAppleIntelPIIXATA

Audio --> Other Audio --> AC97

Wireless --> Intel --> 3945

Ethernet --> AppleBCM5751Ethernet NOTE: Doesn't work yet

USB Drivers --> Select the two options listed

Power Management --> Select all options, 5 listed

Fixes and Patches -->

~ ACPI Fix

~ Time Machine Patch

~ IOPCIFamily.kext patched

~ Seatbelt.kext 10.5.5

~ USB Mount Fix

~ Optional - not tested - Shutdown Restart Fix

Applications - All of them except Marvin's AMD Utility

9. Press Done

10. Click on Install

11. Click on the Skip button for Disk Verification

12. Install takes about 10 minutes from this point.

13. Press F8 on first boot – type in "- f" for the first reboot.

At this point you are most of the way through.

This is what doesn't work

· TrackPad, Keyboard and Volume Buttons ( We are going to Fix )

· Power Management (Battery Indicator)

· Ethernet – If someone has a fix, I would like to know so we can include it.

What does work

· All Video (you don't have to worry about the issue with the external VGA port on this install – it works without any tricks) Sound

· All Software updates from Apple

· Quartz Extreme

· Wireless

· Shutdown/Restart

· Time Machine

· No Crashes – very stable.

· Sleep works like a charm – including sleep on clamshell closing.

· All Programs including DVD player.

You will need an external mouse and keyboard once booted in. The mouse and trackpad do not work at this point. You will need to download this package and open it with Pacifist. DO NOT Execute the pkg as it will render everything you have done up to this point usless.

KEYBOARD AND MOUSE Install

1. Download Package PS2Fix1054.

2. Right Click on the Package à Open With à Pacifist

3. After 15 Seconds, Click on Not Yet (Support Charles if you use this App)

4. Expand contents of "Choice0"

5. Expand contents of "appleps2controller.pkg"

6. Right Click "ApplePS2Controller.kext" and select the option "Install to default location"

You now have trackpad and keyboard, including the sound and mute buttons.

Power Mgmt is flaky and I suggest you setup Time Machine first before you do this. There seems to be a conflict between whatever Kext Time Machine and Power Management is using.

Power MGMT Instructions

Go to SuperHai's download site at http://www.superhai.com/darwin.html and get the VooDooPower and Battery Kext I also grabbed the clamshell.kext.. Open OSX86 Tools in your applications folder and follow these steps

Backup Extensions to a known location.

Click on "Install Kexts"

Install the first one by following the prompts.

Press Cancel at the very end so you don't have to restart at each install. Normally you should but for these three, you can skip.

After you are done – select "Set Extensions Permissions", "Touch Extensions Folder" à Run Selected Tasks and then Reboot.

Please PM me if you have issues and if you have fixes for items which do not work here completely such as tap to click, power mgmt, and Broadcom Ethernet, please feel free to add suggestions or further instructions.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I just figured out that the power management issue I was having can be fixed by applying the DSDT Patch. Use the HPHET hacked version either during the customize phase or after by going to Applications --> UInstaller --> DSDT_Patcher1.01e --> DSDT Patcher. Follow the prompts from your terminal. Time Machine and Power MGMT now work with accurate reads on the battery indicator / time left. My next priority is fixing the ALPs touchpad so you can use it to click / I would like the same combination just like that of my mac pro - the two finger slide.
Does anyone want to come up with an install guide and proper kext for enabling the slide without disabling the touch/click and drag option?? That would really be great.
I know there are a ton of other installs out there and I have tried them all - this is the only one that had most of the tools and drivers that were necessary to get this working. I will be putting a video on youtube in the next couple of days and posting the link here for everyone to see. Boot time is extremely fast - less than 20 seconds.
I have installed iLife '09 / Office 2008 / iWork '09 / Toast Titanium - no issues at all. Everything works. I also would like to mention that front row works well.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Here is the video I just posted in case anyone is interested.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have misplaced the file but will upload it in a couple of minutes. - They deleted the original post for some reason and now I am trying to put everything back out there.
Please use the trackpad kext that I loaded for inserting into the ApplePS2Controller.kext.
1. You can do this by navigating to the package -- System/Library/Extensions/ApplePS2Controller.kext
2. Right Click on the Kext and select Package Contents.
3. In the new finder window, nav to the Plugin folder. Copy the kext that I have attached and replace the existing ApplePS2Trackpad.kext.
4. Open OSX86Tools and do the following.
Set Extension Permissions.
Clear Extensions Cache
Touch Extensions Folder
Reboot.
You now have the ability to click using the trackpad but I still cannot get it to show up in the mouse preferences.
I'm still trying to make the display shutoff when I close it. Any suggestions?/QUOTE
Here is the clamshell fix that comes on the IPC install disk. I hope it helps. Make sure you clear your extensions cache and touch extensions folder with OSX86 Tools after and reboot. Let me know if it works and post your results here if you don't mind.
You're right; it's gone. Could someone put that clamshell.kext up here? Looks like a good guide, riddiculous. I'm excited to try it. Do trackpad taps work to click with the patch you posted? Also, any luck with the ethernet? Thanks./QUOTE
Yes. Trackpad has the taps to click and click/drag functionality. The only thing that bugs me is the fact that I don't have a trackpad tab in the mouse settings. Other people have said to remove the PS2mouse.kext and/or remove the PS2Keyboard.kext out of the PS2Controller.kext plugins section. I did try that to no avail. So I am stuck on that point. If you want to experiment to get it working, I would welcome a fix for this. I have not made headway on the ethernet. I guess we need to get the vin id for these stupid broadcoms and have someone write a patch. I saw someone asked on a board with this issue but the person doing the patches never responded with a fix.
Thanks for this great post riddiculous! I also have a Dell D610 which I'm currently typing this post on. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
The first thing is regarding your question about getting the network driver working. I have the Broadcom BCM5751 NetXtreme device id: 14e4 1677. I got the ethernet working! I used an old, but still fully functional kext from Nisa-it. It was a simple procedure to get it working:
1) Download the zip file from here:
http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...mp;?do=findComment&comment=121928
2) Unzip the zip file
3) Use Osx86 Tools to install the kext (or follow Nisa-it's instructions)
4) Reboot (if needed, for me it started working after the install)
*Note: This method gave me 00:00:00:00:00:00 as a MAC, but at least ethernet works!
The other item I'd like to mention is that I have the GMA 915 Intel Video card. Unfortunately, using the 915 drivers from the 10.5.6 PPF5 install DVD didn't work. However, I DID get it working with full Quartz/Hardware Accelleration by selecting no video drivers when installing.
Thanks again for the post! I hope others will find some use in this.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

@Turkish Delight:

Try installing 10.5.6 using the method outlined by Riddiculous, except using either: GMA 900, 915, OR 950. Try one at a time. If you still get the blue screen hang with all of these options, then you can always do the paper clip trick outlined here:

http://gsbd41316.wordpress.com/2006/08/01/...ipstaple-trick/

@riddiculous:

For me, osx86 has always been a double edged sword. I realized today that installing the Ethernet kext I outlined above prevents my computer from being able to go into sleep mode! I'm not sure if anyone has released any new Ethernet kexts, or if I just have some settings wrong. But it looks like for now either I have Ethernet, or sleep, but not both! I'll do some digging around and post if I find anything (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Also, it appears that not selecting any video card drivers led to the GMA 950 driver being installed. At least that's what my System Profiler says (even though I actually have a GMA 915)

Fn + F8 while you have a monitor plugged in. That will shut it off, and turn on external vga.

QUOTE(Turkish Delight @ Feb 16 2009, 06:07 PM)

I tried installing without the GM900 kext as suggested, but it freezes at the blue loading screen with no cursor (right after grey logo and spinner). The only other variation from your instructions was adding the PS/2 keyboard patch. Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas?

It sounds like you are going to have to do the paperclip trick or hook up the external monitor to the vga port until we figure out what is going on. Try that out to troubleshoot. Don't understand why you are having this issue. Try the GMA915 but I was getting this issue with the GMA 915. I even installed using the GMA900 first. Make sure you have the right chipset chosen. DO NOT choose any of the ICHXXX kexts in the customize. These definately do not work.

You are right about that ethernet issue with the sleep. If you don't need it and have wireless working, I would just use it or try disabling the ethernet in Network Properties under system preferences first before going into sleep and see what happens. If that does not work then remove the AppleBCMXX kext, clear extensions cache and touch extensions folder.

Addressing the GMA900 issue, the GMA900 kext supplied actually fools the system into thinking it is a GMA950, hence why you get the QE enabled and About Mac Video states it is a GMA950. I read about this in another post that this indeed is occurring with the GMA900 kext but NOT the GMA915 kext.

what about the DELL D610 with the Atheros AR5007 wireless card?

Has anyone made it work???

It appears as if they do have it working. Here is a link to the guide for getting this particular wireless card to work. The only thing I can think that may change is that after the fix is in place, the Sleep functionality will go away.

QUOTE(Turkish Delight @ Feb 17 2009, 11:16 AM)

I reinstalled, this time with the GM900 driver and without DSDT and PS/2 fixes initially, and it booted fine. Dell 1470 Dual-band WLAN Mini-PCI works perfectly with the IO80211Family.kext. My only question now is if it is possible to adjust the touchpad tracking speed, which is a little too high for my liking. As you noted, the preference pane does not appear in System Prefs. Also, I have two battery icons, probably from all the different power management kexts installed (5 from the CD and 2 from Super?) Do you know which one to remove to fix that while still keeping the functionality? Thanks for the very useful guide. Great results.

I will start looking for a way to get both the mouse and the trackpad tabs in the Mouse Preferences. If anyone can give some insight into this issue, it would be appreciated.

This is a very helpful guide. I successfuly installed osx on my D610 and upgraded to 10.5.7. Thanks riddiculous.

Some notes:

1. I used to have a Intel 2200/2915ABG wireless card, and I couldn't make it working. Actually, I don't think there is a working driver for those cards, at lease for D610. What I did is to purchase a Dell card, and installed the broadcom driver.

2. The ethernet card can be actived using the mentioned driever. However, it will prevent the computer going into sleep. So IMHO, not worth it. As my wireless working fine, I have disabled the ethernet card in BIOS.

3. the PS2 trackpad is a problem - tapping is not working initially. riddiculous mentioned a driver for the trackpad, but I cannot find it anywhere. There is also a 10.5.6 ready PS2 driver floating around in this forum, and it works when you start the computer. However, after the computer resume from sleep, I lost the tapping capability. The only driever that supports tapping and scrolling is called Voodoo PS2 driver so far, but I found that sometimes, the pointer 'jumps'.

If anyone knowns a good driver supporting tapping, please share.

4. In order to upgrade to 10.5.7, I first suggest you do a backup of the whole system, and also the sys/lib/ext. Then download the 10.5.7 combo upgrade from apple, and install it. You maybe not able to start the osx for the first time. what I did is using the ipc dvd to boot and install the kernel and driever only (skip the base system).

After that, you should be able to boot the system in safe mode (-x flag). Then, restart the system second time, and you should have a 10.5.7 system working like mine. If not, you have to use osx86tools to restore the extentions from the backup, then 10.5.7 should works.

Hi all,

I followed Riddiculous instructions and everything works EXCEPT WiFi. I only have Bluetooth and Built-in Serial Port (0)

Any suggestions? Help? Thanks

UPDATE: I reinstalled everything and tried the Intel Wireless 2200 WiFi driver (a few sites indicated that is the WiFi chip the D610 has).

I now have WiFi in Network and in the Menu but.. it doesn't work. It doesn't see any networks and when I try and manually insert the name and password, it "fails to connect". When I open System Preferences and select Network and select WiFi the Sys Prefs suddenly crashes/quits. Every time.

What to do? Any other driver I can try? Is there a way to uninstall the WiFi drivers and try other ones without having to reinstall the whole OS again?

Thanks

If you have the convenience of swapping your intel 2200 to a broadcom, it is much better...

The closest I have found for the 2200BG driver is Project: Camphor by MercurySquad. (http://projectcamphor.mercurysquad.com/)

He is close to having the 2200 drivers complete and then will be working on the 3945 drivers.

Hi all and a great big thanks for all the time and expertise that has gone into this thread, I have installed the IPC Universal 10.5.6 Final download onto my Dell Latitude D410 with the instruction by "riddiculous" and apart from the track pad click function it is all running as it should, I followed the install to the letter and only had to amend the lan network drivers to get it all up and working. I bought a media slice for the laptop which gave me the ability to run the install disk straight from the laptop although I also used an external disk drive while I was waiting for the media slice to arrive, I had to have a couple of goes to get it all working. Thanks once again for the work you have all put into this thread.

I haven't been able to find the file I need to get the track pad click functioning any help would be greatly appreciated on this. Keep up the good work :rolleyes::) :)

Attached is the PS2Fix1054 and ApplePS2Trackpad.kext referenced in the original guide if your trackpad doesn't work. Also can someone see if they can get two-finger scrolling working from this extension: http://uphuck.ggrn.de/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3717

If it works, it might also cause the trackpad preferencepane to show up in system prefs so that tracking speed can be adjusted and isn't so sensitive.

Hi, first off thanks for the guide and I have almost everything up and running perfect. The 3 things I am missing are the network card (not to important), the battery icon, and the PCMCIA slots. I really would like to get the PCMCIA slot working so I can use a data card with this.

Thanks

My next priority is fixing the ALPs touchpad so you can use it to click / I would like the same combination just like that of my mac pro - the two finger slide.

Does anyone want to come up with an install guide and proper kext for enabling the slide without disabling the touch/click and drag option?? That would really be great.

I know there are a ton of other installs out there and I have tried them all - this is the only one that had most of the tools and drivers that were necessary to get this working. I will be putting a video on youtube in the next couple of days and posting the link here for everyone to see. Boot time is extremely fast - less than 20 seconds.

I have installed iLife '09 / Office 2008 / iWork '09 / Toast Titanium - no issues at all. Everything works. I also would like to mention that front row works well.

Here is the video I just posted in case anyone is interested.

I have misplaced the file but will upload it in a couple of minutes. - They deleted the original post for some reason and now I am trying to put everything back out there.

Please use the trackpad kext that I loaded for inserting into the ApplePS2Controller.kext.

1. You can do this by navigating to the package -- System/Library/Extensions/ApplePS2Controller.kext

2. Right Click on the Kext and select Package Contents.

3. In the new finder window, nav to the Plugin folder. Copy the kext that I have attached and replace the existing ApplePS2Trackpad.kext.

4. Open OSX86Tools and do the following.

Set Extension Permissions.

Clear Extensions Cache

Touch Extensions Folder

Reboot.

You now have the ability to click using the trackpad but I still cannot get it to show up in the mouse preferences.

Here is the clamshell fix that comes on the IPC install disk. I hope it helps. Make sure you clear your extensions cache and touch extensions folder with OSX86 Tools after and reboot. Let me know if it works and post your results here if you don't mind.

You're right; it's gone. Could someone put that clamshell.kext up here? Looks like a good guide, riddiculous. I'm excited to try it. Do trackpad taps work to click with the patch you posted? Also, any luck with the ethernet? Thanks./QUOTE

Yes. Trackpad has the taps to click and click/drag functionality. The only thing that bugs me is the fact that I don't have a trackpad tab in the mouse settings. Other people have said to remove the PS2mouse.kext and/or remove the PS2Keyboard.kext out of the PS2Controller.kext plugins section. I did try that to no avail. So I am stuck on that point. If you want to experiment to get it working, I would welcome a fix for this. I have not made headway on the ethernet. I guess we need to get the vin id for these stupid broadcoms and have someone write a patch. I saw someone asked on a board with this issue but the person doing the patches never responded with a fix.

Thanks for this great post riddiculous! I also have a Dell D610 which I'm currently typing this post on. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

The first thing is regarding your question about getting the network driver working. I have the Broadcom BCM5751 NetXtreme device id: 14e4 1677. I got the ethernet working! I used an old, but still fully functional kext from Nisa-it. It was a simple procedure to get it working:

1) Download the zip file from here:

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...mp;?do=findComment&comment=121928

2) Unzip the zip file

3) Use Osx86 Tools to install the kext (or follow Nisa-it's instructions)

4) Reboot (if needed, for me it started working after the install)

*Note: This method gave me 00:00:00:00:00:00 as a MAC, but at least ethernet works!

The other item I'd like to mention is that I have the GMA 915 Intel Video card. Unfortunately, using the 915 drivers from the 10.5.6 PPF5 install DVD didn't work. However, I DID get it working with full Quartz/Hardware Accelleration by selecting no video drivers when installing.

Thanks again for the post! I hope others will find some use in this.

@Turkish Delight:

@riddiculous:

Yes, I found it here after searching for 4 hours. Here you go http://macyourpc.com/wp-content/uploads/20...displaykext.zip link for Clamshell.kext

Hi!

Thx for the great guide @riddiculous.

Since Sunday, i try to get it working like descriped, but i've not overcome over one serious problem.

I can't get my D610 to go into sleep mode.

All it does when i choose sleep on mac os or close the display is, that is disables wifi.

And then when i move the mouse a few later, it reactivates wifi again.

I think there's something, what's preventing full sleep mode.

The ethernet isn't installed, and the only thing my dell differs from the one in the first post is, that i've change the intel 2915abg wlan card, for which i don't get wpa2 working, into a broadcom bcm4318.

the only idea i have is, that perhaps the kext's from superhai have changed meanwhile.

I would be happy, if someone could give me the additional working files.

Any other help or hints is welcome.

I hope someone knows this problem.

Ciao... paXton

PS: Sorry for my bad english.
