New Apple Ads

Apple has begin a new marketing campaign to illustrate the differences between Windows based PCs and Macs.

I'm a Mac, I'm a PC

My thoughts:

1. I love it. It's about time the commercials were (at least a little) informative.

2. If they run them like iTunes ads, they will quickly get annoying.

(I thought the woman was supposed to be Linux, but a camera is cool too...)

Hah! I was just about to post those. ;)

I love these. The restarting one was great as was the japanese one.

As a comm major, I LOVE (most of) Apple's ads. They're some of the best, IMO.

Wow.. how disappointing.. Apples commercial campaign is still busy dissing PCs long after the real differences are gone. Also note how they clearly mean "windows PC" when they say PC...

PC is a fat guy in a suit? Mac is a trendy guy in casual clothes.. With the price of Mac hardware, and its market segment, the reality is more commonly the other way round.

Reboots? well *nixes dont need those so much, but windows really doesnt suffer from that so much anymore.

Virii? fine, windows has many thousands of times more virii, but who isnt protected against those anymore?

iLife? great, on the mac, its one package, on windows, you have to assemble & choose for yourself, or accept another comercial bundle.. is that really an advantage?

Drivers, true OS X comes bundled with gigabytes of drivers, thats why its so huge on disk, whereas on windows you have to install the driver for whatever hardware you add.. once again, the difference really isnt that major.

Seriously, rather than accentuate the true differences; hardware design, OS ease of use etc, smoothness of operation, they choose to attempt to breathe life into the idiotic platform bigotry of yesteryear.

Talk about marketing missing the point..

didn't find it all that amusing... wasn't good... wasn't bad.

i just wanted to tell the "Mac" that he was a damned PC now too though. :poster_oops:

I'm constantly haunted by how I would have done it...

"Hi I am a Mac" - (guy in his 30's, very elegant white suit...)

"Hi I am a PC" - (guy in his early 20's, mix-n-match of clothes)

PC: "Dude, I rock, I have a dual-core X86 processor, DDR2 RAM a 20" flat screen.."

Mac: "Yeah, me too"

PC: "Well, I run MS WIndows, The worlds biggest OS, I have more software available than any other platform"

Mac: "Yeah, me too"

PC: "Well I pwn for games"

Mac: "Same here..."

PC: "Well dude, were like, just the same"

Mac: "Well not quite; see I Also run OS X, The best OS in the world. (cuts to OS X in action) When they put you together, they slotted a load of pieces in a box (animation of PC components slotting together at right-angles: boring & clumsy) , when they put me together, they did something altogether more coherent (animation of components twirling into an iMac) And lets face it, I make this look good..." (puts on shades & walks away)

-------------------------

So fine, no-one is paying me a fortune to sell macs, my ad doesnt cover iLife or driver support or any of the other stuff, and it seems the majority of you actually like these ads..

But I still think my version actually plays on the true strengths of the Mac, and well we all have our own opinions...

hmm wouldn't the pc and the mac in reality be nearly the same age? (temporarily forgetting the fact that both are technically similar)

No, OS X is relatively new being only 5 years old, while the majority of XP has been around since Windows 95. Twice as long.

now we're just spliting hair's the commercial refers to mac's not osx

No, viruses affect OS's not hardware; iLife is for Mac OS X, not XP; the Digital Camera worked with Mac OS X not Windows...

The commercial was about Mac OS X.

well we all know there's a dramatic change from O.S 9 to X but from Apple's point of view it's really just a progressive evolution of the operating system. The commercial clearly says show's an iMac at the end of it so it couldn't be about an operating system specifically (of course Apple has nor do I they seem to intend on selling it as a stand alone operating system in the near future) whatever the case I think my original point stands that whatever platform you are really talking about either Windows or Mac or Linux or Unix if they were to actually be represented by people in commercials they should be roughly the same age,

As far as the age difference in my "ad" is concerned...

The difference in age groups was meant to reflect the target markets.. Mac consumers are necessarily better off, as they are buying higher priced products, they are often professionals with an eye for design, hence (student discounts notwithstanding) tend to be a bit older & better dressed than the purely bangs-per-buck oriented PC.

(& no, I dont work in advertising or marketing, but I am open to job offers  )

Is it just me, or did the "PC" guy look like Bill Gates?

Next Apple commercial:

PC - "Hello. I'm a PC."

MAC - "I'm a Mac."

PC - "I come with Windows XP"

MAC - "I can run XP and OS X. Not to mention iLife, which includes iTunes, and iMovie, and..."

[[at this point a dark figure jumps out with a sword and stabs the MAC]]

Maxxuss - "...And you cost too damn much"

PC - "I just didn't have the heart to tell him that I can run OS X too"
