Macbook Pro Late '07 Screen

Hey guys.

The screen on my mbp is not happy. Started a couple of weeks ago when the screen went a bit darker when you moved it to a certain angle on the hinge, and a bit of wiggling fixed it. It had a sort of grid across it that made the image darker, and graduated colours were missing, so the galaxy (or whatever it is, the Leopard default background) had a blue middle, then went pink where it was meant to be bright etc.

It is now stuck like this unless you put pressure on the top left hand corner of the screen casing, pulling it back towards yourself. It also has a couple of different states of "darkened" depending on how much pressure you apply. If I put the lid against a wall with pressure on the corner, the display is totally fine until you move it away.

I'm wondering if this is an inverter issue, or the cables. I don't think its the panel itself as the display is fine as long as pressure is on the top corner, or you press the back of the lid towards the bottom of the screen inwards while pushing the frame away from yourself.

Plugging in an external screen still works fine.

I've taken it apart once to check for damaged cables etc, but nothing stood out as ruined, although there is a bit of wear where the hinge rubs.

I'm not keen on paying the nigh on £400 repair bill from Apple, and would much prefer to buy a $50 inverter or cable or even the airport hinge bit if thats going to fix it.

Any thoughts?

Cheers.
