Colonel
I've used Ubuntu on my old G5 iMac (before it died). It would freeze when I tried to boot though. I have Ubuntu on my iBook. It worked for a day, and now it keeps saying that it can't the the GUI.
amalgam
Has anyone tried getting some distro of linux running on a mac? im curious. On the Power PC Macs you mean? Sure. Yellow Dog went smooth here. Didn't work it hard, but fairly indistinguishable from Intel linux. www.yellowdoglinux.com Just google "ppc linux" and you'll come up with several distros from Nubus to G5 machines. Yellow Dog, Mandrake, Gentoo - more. On Intel Macs? Not personally, but it was a linux distro that was first to get successfully booted on a retail Intel Mac, not XP, so the answer is definitely "yes" as well. Christoph Pfisterer
Has anyone tried fedora core or ubuntu? Yes. Hint: If you want useful information, ask for it. I'll add that not only did I try Ubuntu 6.06 personally, it also actually worked (with some tweaking) and I have it running on my 17" iMac Core Duo. For more information about Linux on Intel Macs, check out www.mactel-linux.org or google for "Ubuntu MacBook" (there are several useful sites to be found).
