Constantly borked Tiger MBR?

Hi,

running 10.4.9 (uphuck) and while everything works as it should and on my rig (Dell GX280) getting decent boot time (14 sec), there is this one issue I still did not solve.

Blinking cursor after reboot. Not every reboot but still quite often. Well, I found a workaround: Ranish Partition Manager tells that MBR is "Unknown IPL" so I change it to "Standart IPL" or "Bootloader", save over it, reboot and there we go, same good old Tiger.

I am suspicious of few apps that might tap the MBR and stay away from them; I have even stopped using apps like VMWare or similar system heavy stuff, because thats when I got those blinking cursor misadventures earlier. Still, even if I only run word processing, web browser and media players, after reboot it just happens again.

I mean, I know I should be lucky I can bring the Tiger back to life, but honestly: this just sucks.

Any thoughts?

May somewhat educated guess would be that it has to do with improper shutdown in the restart like a process is not getting completely done before the PC tries to start back up. Or option 2 could be your HardDrive. I had an issue with my setup and I noticed that I would have to shut down completely and wait then turn the system back on. but mine was like that on every reboot.
