Jeezoflip
Last night i installed photobooth and frontrow from the install dvd. Front row shows up in the core folder, but when u try to run it...nothing happens.... Anyway, so i also installed photobooth. Is there a way to make your regular webcam be detected as an iSight? Lemme know, thanx.
Colonel
Here is the guide to help you get Front Row working. For the webcam, you might want to try Macam to get it to work.
bluedragon1971
Actually, you need a webcam that is supported in OS X (with either the manufacturer's drivers or third-party ones like Macam or IOXperts) and you also need iChatUSBCam, a utility that tricks OS X into thinking that USB webcams are connected via FireWire. The universal version of iChatUSBCam is not generally available yet, unless you have previously purchased it, in which case you should have gotten an e-mail with the link to download the beta (I have it, and it works pretty good). I can only get PhotoBooth to work partially with my system though, some effects work, others do not, and the working ones change occasionally, so it's not stable at all. This is probably due to the beta nature of iChatUSBCam.
Jeezoflip
Thanx for the feedback. Can you just buy an iSight and have it work?
Colonel
an iSight will work just like it would on any other Mac. Make sure that you have a supported firewire card first though.
Jeezoflip
I do i do! so...you can just take an iSight, and it will work on the OSx86? has anyone attempted this?
EddieR
Jeezoflip a while back, I had purchased a laptop with windows installed, I believe it had a D type processor, anyway, with all this hackintosh going around, I decided to install a hacked version of MacOSX, to my amasement, I had an iSight lying around and connected it to the firewire, and it worked very well with iChat, but the computer aparrently wouldn't boot photo booth, anyway since than I returned the laptop and got me a MBP, so if your question is will a real iSight work, I guess the answer is YES as long as you have a supported firewire it should work fine. Bearcat
To be clear: I have a Belkin firewire card in my x86 machine, and an iSight connected to it. I can confirm that it is recognized and used by OSX86 as if I had it connected in to a real Mac. Photobooth and iChat all work correctly with the iSight. Takuro
I decided to buy an iSight at the Apple Store last week. As soon as I plugged it into my Vaio, it started loading the necessary drivers and other files. 2 seconds later, iChat displayed a nice little "video chat enabled" icon next to my username." It was that simple. Oh, and it works amazingly well in Windows too, minus audio. Get an iSight. It's worth it. You can use it to scan bar codes and make an index of your movies, games, etc with Declicious Library. You can use Speech Commands to dictate which programs should run, using the built-in microphone. It does so much more than webcams... definatelty worth the money.

BRP
Well, since it has a tube shape, it does make it rather convenient for pointing it at stuff. Image quality? ...iiit's a webcam.
Takuro
The picture quality isn't bad at all. I'd give it an 8/10. Sure, there are cheaper cameras out there with a better video quality, but the iSight integrates flawlessly out of the box with the OS X operating system in a lot of ways. It does what it's meant to do: shoot streaming broadcasts for multi-videochat conferences. If you want an ulta-high quality camera for bird watching or whatever, get a different camera. jaqueshaas
Or just get Photoboof, a Windows application taht much more closely duplicates the photobooth experience than the crappy Mac version. Lets you use a regular camera with a flash too. http://photoboof.com
