tuffy100
So I was jailbreaking my ipod touch 2g following http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=3206 and i think i broke my ipod. I followed every step and when i tried restoring my ipod with the new firmware, it said 'The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An Unknown error occured (9).' Now my screen won't even turn on. What do I do??? (Screenshot of the error message attached.)
booger_sniffer5000
Put it into DFU mode and restore it.
ElementalMist
with it plugged into the power adapter(if you have one) Hold down the Power/Lock button and the home button for ten seconds then let go of the power button and continue to hold home. When the Apple Logo Appears keep holding home and wala. A factory ipod. You can also hook it up in dfu mode and restore on your PC or Mac. (Search ipod DFU mode on google) Hope this helps! -TAF-
Simon19
DFU Mode seems to work, make sure you are restoring to the latest 3.1.3 as Apple is no longer letting ppl restore to 3.1.2 if you live near an apple store, go see a so called "Genius" they'll know what to do with it. Although it might not be the best idea to take a jailbroken device to the retail store, it might be worth a shot.

FWIW, I just used Spirit to jailbreak my iPod touch 3G 3.1.3 (which is really 2G hardware). I had used Blackra1n before but that was a tethered jb. This is untethered and works fine. So nice to not have to worry about powering it down when I'm away from my laptop.
yappers4
Ok Im not sure whether or not you get this error when you try to restore to 3.1.2 or try to restore to 3.1.3. What you should do is this: Go to Itunes and hit restore. Dont shift click just click. It will put you to 3.1.3 but no worries. Next download the file I have attatched. This is called the Spirit Jailbreak. It worked on my 2g 3.1.3 (No downgrade needed) MC Ipod, but Ive heard it works on every ipod there is. (Yay!) This is untethered so you can turn your ipod on and off all day and it will continue to work. Funny thing, the people at Apple try to stop us from jailbreaking, but our ipods are being jailbroken to hell and back Best of luck with the jailbreak!
