Hey to all. I am trying to use Logic Express 7.2, but it seems to crash when I add effects and use plugins. I guess this problem is caused by the sound chip (SoundMax AC'97) that I have on my motherboard. Can anybody suggest what is the best card for use with Logic Express cos I wanna buy something comaptible?
Thanx

Could possibly be your Processors not upto it, and that it Lacks SSE3, not sure how heavly optimized for SSE3 Logic is.
No Probs at all on Logic Here.

whether or not it is the soundcard, you dont really wanna be using AC'97 for logic!!!! as elRey said, m-audio have full osx86 support, but there are other manufacturers to look at - edirol make a very good line of external audio interfaces, but for internal the best in my opinion is RME - the Hammerfall gives you 0% cpu load so that should solve most problems

but we dont get driver for the hammerfall, i own one and i need universal drivers.
rme can not start to built one without an intel powermac witch is not available at the moment
and then will come up the next stepp, will a pcx driver work on a pci slot

Ah, my bad - the intel drivers are for the fireface 800. I'm sure therell be some hammerfall drivers out soon - rme are basically just a load of german geeks who like making audio interfaces so theyll be on top of it

I will search the wiki too. Maybe an internal card I think, but there is a lack of drivers, I will look for something cheep and also something to work well with basic effects in Logic Express. Damm they retail Rme Frieface 800 at 1.186 euros in Romania. Pfff, too expensive.
Anyway thanx!!

Do pci audio cards work, or even show up on an amd setup?
this is the deal breaker for me using osx 86, that and no usb midi devices

Well, my Layla24 (pci based) doesn't work whatsoever....I do have the source code for the drivers, but am pretty clueless how to wrap them around the IOkit.
As for my onboard sound (Azalia), it actually works pretty good for unibin audio apps like ableton...anytime I run something PPC based though, like Cubase SX1 for instance, I can't get more than two tracks of audio going before bad things happen (massive stuttering, crashing, etc.).
The part about this that sucks the most is that there are very few unibin AUs and VSTs yet, and the unibin ableton won't even acknowledge PPC plugins.
To top it off, I to have no midi either...the PPC drivers for my Novation Remote25 won't work, and I doubt I'll ever see Unibin drivers for my Motu Micro Express since it's a parrallel port device.

Yeah this osx x86 stuff is looking like an illusion. My x64 machine makes this look like a wrong turn or something.....
