mitch_de
DL the App http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.p...lease_id=566984 Start it, you will se some moving boxes. A few seconds testtime are enough, you can close the app. The Speed Values (FPS) are written in the console log. Here some results (got in the german maclife forum thread) CanATI 48XX beat the Nr. 1 in list: 8800GTS , Winner with near 30 FPS ? YEAH: ATI HD4870 from 38 - 44 FPS, lot of times faster than Oldies like ATI2600 (4+-FPS ) all HD4850 around 29-31 FPS Q9550@3,2 GHz, 4 GB RAM, Geforce 8800GTS : around 30 FPS Mac Pro 2x2.0Ghz GeForce 8800GT FPS:20.874102 E8400 3GHz/4GB DDR2/500GB HDD/SD/BT/ATI HD3870 FPS:19.161676 mitch C2D 2.66 - ATI 3850 512 MB- 16 FPS MacBook Pro 2.53 GHz GeForce 9400M FPS:3.9275951 GeForce 9600M GT FPS:9.142857 MacBookPro4,1 | GeForce 8600M GT ( 512 MB ) = 7,5 FPS Macbook Alu (late 2008) Geforce 9400M = 4+ FPS Alu iMac 2,4 GHz, 24", 2 GB Ram, ATI Radeon 2600 = 4- FPS MacBook Air (1. Its puts Shaderprogrammcode on the GPU (like raytraycing) and compute the game of life. App is an screensafer. DL the small saver, run it (double click) and settings: Fullscreen, show FPS and Zoom=1 (to get compareable FPS values!!!. Zoom=2 gives much more FPS, not comparable with Zoom=1) Results: Sapphire 1GB Radeon HD 4870 @ 1920x1200, 856.08 FPS C2D, Asus EAH4850 TOP/HTDI/512M (ATi HD4850) at 1440X900 result 1068.33 FPS Hint: Always look also at the resolution, if you compare your card FPS! Example gameoflife FPS above: ATI 4870 = 1920x1200=2.304.000 Pixel to compute = 856 FPS ATI 4850 = 1440x900 = 1.296.000 Pixel to compute = 1068 FPS. First look maybe give: 4850 is faster - but thats very wrong !! Always compare Pixel (X*Y) resolution also - so 4870 has done * 1,77 work as 4850, because much higher res. 856 * 1,77 = 1521 FPS , this FPS around (I GUESS) would be that 4870 at lower res 1440*900 ! mitch_de
Thanks. Can someone with ATI 48xx also try the gpu gameoflife ? Use it with settings seen in my post for comparable FPS and also add your screen resolution (the higher the res, the more points the gpu must compute gol , the less the fps). Already found gameoflife GPU FPS you can compare with yours from my post above. Both gpu shader tests are very gpu dependend, less cpu dependend. An MacPro (4 Cores) with NV 7300 GT got only 1,3 FPS in the raytraycing gpu bench, the new ATI 4870 values up to 44 FPS - near same GPU!!! ATI 4870 is over 25 times faster (in Programm-Shading!!) than 7300GT - but not also 25 times faster in normal OpenGL (Games).
