josejrp
For some reason, my Parallels installation reports the Reserved Memory Limit for Parallels as 96MB (both the minumum and the maximum limits are hard-coded to 96MBs and I cannot change them in the Preferences->Memory menu). I can set the specific Virtual Machine memory higher than that, but it appears that all that does is increase the Virtual Memory I am using, as the physical memory remains fixed at about 96MB (and I get a lot of warnings about my Virtual Machine memory being higher than my overall Parallels memory). Any suggestions on how to fix this? I've tried uninstalling, etc...
SilverDragon
How much memory do you have in the machine? if its the stock 512mb thats probably why.
Victor Gil
I have the same problem, maybe it's because de Beta version i have 1 Gb RAM....
fibtastic
Anyone have any luck resolving this issue? It's been present in all the Beta's I've tried up to Beta 6. Seems to be a hackintosh only thing and I'm wondering if Parallels intends on fixing it. Is this value stored in a config file somewhere perhaps? Just gave Beta 6 it's first real try. It's painfully slow. In fact the last few builds have gotten worse not better. I'm starting to have the sinking feeling that they're leaving us osx86ers behind.... Shimms
Which makes sense. I dont think they'd dedicate resources to making sure it works for us. Thats not their problem.
joskus
I personally think each build has gotten much quicker - though beta 6 doesn't work at all (some memory problem)....
fibtastic
I have 1GB of ram in my laptop but was only able to use 96mb in Parallels Reserved Memory Limit tab. Trying to set the number higher resulted in an invalid memory size dialog box from Parallels. The workaround: Edit /Library/Parallels/.parallels_common_options directly and set AllVMsMemoLimit=512. I was then able to set my vm memory size to 512 and I can see all 512mb ram in windows. The slider dialog in the parallels pref pane is still limited to 96mb but it seems to be a UI only issue. Running Beta 6 with today's hotfix. Still have the mouse pointer issue but have worked around with the mouse trails hack. My xp vm is actually useable again. MikeBee
you beauty! i've been having the same problem on my hackintosh. i was contemplating fully uninstalling and reinstalling parallels, but this has fixed it so far. just reinstalling windows from .iso file. normally it takes about 2 hours to get through the first blue screen part. it's just finishing up after only a few minutes (the kettle just boiled in the time lol). fantastic fix. am running beta 6 btw. have you installed the parallels tools to fix the sluggish pointer? i just wish they'd make parallel tools for linux so i could check out the latest dapper drake ubuntu release
MikeBee
all installed okay, but when i install parallels tools the mouse pointer now disappears when i move the pointer over the parallels app! shocking anyone found a similar thing?
quixos
this is just a suggestion, i have no idea if it will work or not. i am on 10.4.6, hackintosh. i'm running Parallels with no problem. i use the 10.4.3 /System/Library/SystemProfiler folder i'm thinking more and more, that the .reporter in SystemProfiler inform the system of what you have, and that is used. example. in 10.4.6 update, OS X sees only 64MB of vram, with the 4.3 *.reporters, i get 256MB vram. is it affecting my system? i don't know. but it's an idea to try. i'm going to try out the files from both 4.3 and 4.6 later today, will let you know if there is any change in Parallels memory detection. if this is an osx86 problem, and some have the problem, and some don't, then the problem is solvable from our side, by a process of comparison, and elimination. This file is empty on my system, how exactly to do you set this variable? I've tried: AllVMsMemoLimit=512 and <key>AllVMsMemoLimit</key> <string>512</string> on the off chance they follow that format, but neither seems to make much difference to performance, and I still get all the warnings about exceeding the allocated memory. Am I missing something at the very top of the file such as [Memory Settings] or something?

Victor Gil
all installed okay, but when i install parallels tools the mouse pointer now disappears when i move the pointer over the parallels app! shocking anyone found a similar thing? I have the same problem, the best you can do is to uninstall parallels tools, and then make a custom install and uncheck de mouse sync. I think the error is because of the same problem of the mouse tearing.

josejrp
...or turn mouse trails on and move the slider to the smallest trails possible... which is effectively a single cursor arrow to my eyes.
