Removing Classic

After an unrelated reformat and reinstallation of Mac OS Classic, I relaized that I wouldn't be needing Classic anymore. However, when I try to put the System Folder in the Trash, Finder says that the System Folder is required by the System. I don't see how this could be required, since Mac OS X was working just fine before I reinstalled Classic. Is there any way to remove Classic without reformatting or breaking OS X?

Thanks, but I ended up having to reformat anyway due to problems in Mandriva.

However, I would like to know this: Could I boot a retail version of Mac OS 9 on a post-2003 iBook G4? I know Apple didn't allow OS 9 boots after 2003, but I'm not sure if that just means that boot files aren't included in the prepackaged Classic anymore (I already tried blessing the Classic System Folder just in case, but to no avail).
