zfire89
Is there a way to upgrade from panther to tiger from within mac os x with out having to boot from a cd.
rogabean
No. I launched the installer on my B&W but it rebooted and booted from the CD. Why? It can't install on a drive that it is currently booted from.
A Nonny Moose
There is no way because system files have to be changed (which is also the reason why PPC Macs restart twice when going to 10.4.6). They can't be changed while on, so the system has to be turned off so the changes can take place.
flibblesan
Yes, as the others said, you need to install from DVD.
snackole
This is what I did. Install to an external FireWire HD that has been formated for HFS+ and then switch that HD with the one in your iMac. It was really quite easy and worked great.
