kid2000
Every time I try to install iPhone SDK 2.2.1 it fails. I tried to download it like 6 times using different browsers and systems. I'm on iAtkos 10.5.5. It happened before on 10.5.2 as well but then second or third time it was fine. I've read that some browsers tend to corrupt big files sometimes. I'm fed up. I'm not sure if maybe there is something wrong with the system. Can anyone post md5 checksum of working iPhone SDK 2.2.1 build 9M2621a , please. (How come Apple developers forgot about it?) stroke
Instead of just whining about how it fails, try telling what part fails & open up an install log or something.

That would be the second thing after checking md5 digest which you didn't post. Thanks for nothing smart face. Can anyone post md5 checksum of iPhone SDK 2.2.1 build 9M2621a ? kid2000
Ok, checksum won't help much. It's different every time anyway, even if the file is not corrupted. Some sort of download-id is embedded each time iphone sdk is downloaded. Now, what I'm getting is "Install Failed" in installation window and message "The Installer could not validate the contents of the 'XXX' package. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance." where 'XXX' is different package every time ('MacOSX10.5' or 'iPhoneHostSideTools' etc.). There is nothing else in Console. I guess somehow the file is corrupted every time I download it, I will keep trying. Let me know if any of you had similar problems. My system: Mainboard : Asus P5PL2 Chipset : Intel i945G/GZ Processor : Intel Pentium D @ 2666 MHz Physical Memory : 2048 MB (2 x 1024 DDR2-SDRAM ) Video Card : NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT
kid2000
Just tested my copy of iPhone SDK on iMac, it worked. Now I definitely know there's something wrong with my iAtkos 5i. I have the same problem when installing XCode 3.1.2 Here's the log: 07/02/2009 18:39:53 runner[1963] Extracting BOM from "/Volumes/Xcode Tools/Packages/BluetoothSDK.pkg" to "/Library/Receipts/boms/com.apple.pkg.BluetoothSDKLeo.bom" 07/02/2009 18:39:53 Installer[1960] Processing CoreAudioSDK: 07/02/2009 18:39:53 Installer[1960] Determining files to install 07/02/2009 18:39:53 Installer[1960] Configuring deferred files 07/02/2009 18:39:53 Installer[1960] Assembling temporary receipt 07/02/2009 18:39:53 Installer[1960] Performing pre-extraction actions 07/02/2009 18:39:53 Installer[1960] Creating destination path 07/02/2009 18:39:53 Installer[1960] Validating package payload 07/02/2009 18:39:53 Installer[1960] Starting file extraction 07/02/2009 18:39:54 installdb[1966] -[IFDBD_SchemaA closeNewReceipt]: database error (1): SQL logic error or missing database 07/02/2009 18:39:54 Installer[1960] Performing post-extraction actions 07/02/2009 18:39:54 Installer[1960] Finishing receipt 07/02/2009 18:39:54 runner[1963] Extracting BOM from "/Volumes/Xcode Tools/Packages/CoreAudioSDK.pkg" to "/Library/Receipts/boms/com.apple.pkg.CoreAudioSDKLeo.bom" 07/02/2009 18:39:54 Installer[1960] Processing JavaSDK: 07/02/2009 18:39:54 Installer[1960] Determining files to install 07/02/2009 18:39:54 Installer[1960] Configuring deferred files 07/02/2009 18:39:54 Installer[1960] Assembling temporary receipt 07/02/2009 18:39:54 Installer[1960] Performing pre-extraction actions 07/02/2009 18:39:54 Installer[1960] Creating destination path 07/02/2009 18:39:54 Installer[1960] Validating package payload 07/02/2009 18:39:55 Installer[1960] The JavaSDK package failed to validate. 07/02/2009 18:39:55 Installer[1960] Install failed: The Installer could not validate the contents of the 'JavaSDK' package. bkchoi
I had the exactly same problem (Dell E1405, iDeneb 10.5.5). While searching for the solution, I bumped into a page mentioning possible memory defect. After I pulled out a newly upgraded 2G module (from eBay ), BINGO!. I got one nice and smooth install. The CRC thing really fooled me into thinking the file was corrupted but the problem might be wrong CRC calculation using the bad part of the memory, I guess. Since normally the memory doesnt make any trouble (and that's why it was hard to find the source of the problem), I put it back after I installed the SDK. stroke
It's because chunks of packages are put into memory before they're put onto the hard drive. If the memory is corrupt then it can't read it and will think the file is corrupt resulting in the error. The same thing can happen in OS X installation. kid2000
It's weird because I have three other systems installed on this machine (XP, Vista, Ubuntu) and never had any other problems that could haven been caused by corrupted memory. I guess I will do memory scan. It should show if there are any problems, right? Any tool you can suggest?
bkchoi
I had not experienced any problem either until SDK installation. I guess the probability of hitting small region out of 2.5G is pretty low unless I dispatch a large chunk over memory. You can use memtest to test your memory. If you haven't wipe out Ubuntu, it's in the Grub menu by default.
kid2000
I scanned the memory twice with memtest, no errors. But then I realized that my RAM is overclocked so changed the settings to default. After that didn't get any errors and finally installed iPhone SDK. I'm not 100% sure that overclocked memory was the problem but most likely that was the case. Thanks for your help everyone.
