Geforce 9600 GSO (512mb ddr3) (G94) Working

Just wanted to let everyone interested know I got my new eVGA GeForce 9600 GSO 512mb (which is a G94 chip) working fully. After trying many other things (nvdarwin, nvinstaller, 9xxx series drivers, etc.) I eventually tried simply installing 10.5.5, updating to 10.5.6, then installing custom Nvidea EFI String using UInstaller program. Works great, hope this helps others.

I have this card too. I would have to say for $50 (after rebate) it's pretty unbeatable. Mine is working in 10.5.6 without any drivers. Just a simple EFI string which I am attaching so that others can use it. I could not find the string anywhere and wound up generating one myself using OSx86 tools. Hopefully this will save someone the effort.

I tried using UInstaller to create an EFI string for mine, but it ended with a system hard lock at the end of the white boot screen. I entered chose nvidia custom, then 9600 GSO, then 512MB for the memory. Am I doing something wrong? Do I also need NVinject or something installed?

I have a K9A Platinum and am running the 9.5.0 Voodoo kernel. Installed using iDeneb 1.4

So an update to my situation and a response to ThinkcentreOSX here.

I got my 512MB EVGA working today. I booted into safe mode (using -x at boot), installed the 9000 series drivers (did not fix permissions, also, i did that part last night, i cannot for the life of me remember if i used the original ones or v2, v2 has been giving me a hard lock, so i'm not sure), rebooted into safe mode again, and ran Uinstaller's custom EFI string creator. I named the card "nVidia GeForce 9600 GSO" and picked 512MB for the memory size, then dvi / dvi for outputs. Rebooted and had working CI and QE.

Thinkcentre, when I had the 768MB card I had the one with DDR2 memory, but it was still a g92 so the same method should work. I simply used the 9000 series installer v2 found on the first page in this forum. worked flawlessly.

My 9600GT seems to be working as well... however there is a small glitch which i cant figure out..

On the startup, right after the gray screen with the circle... monitor turns black for a few seconds and then it has white-noise... however it goes away when i either wait for 40 seconds or so or if i turn off the monitor and turn it back on again. The same thing happens (white noise) after the monitor shuts off..

Any ideas on what it might be? As i understand it goes into sleep mode right away..

I can't seem to get my asus en9600gso to do anything other than 1024x768. No CI/QE. The real problem is that I don't actually think I am successfully installing the string above or any that I try to create with the various utilities. I would appreciate any guidance.

Thanks.

The easiest thing to do is to manually insert the string into your com.apple.boot.plist that resides in your /Extra folder. Any text editor will work. Please take a look at this post.

Thank you all for sharing !

Does dual DVI output (for 2 dvi monitors) is working on this card ?

It should. Mine shows up in the System profiler with two ports. I do however only have one monitor so I can not say that with the utmost certainty.

Can anyone confirm the ASUS EN9600 GSO as working? I see further up that the person was having trouble and never commented on whether he solved the problem.

I got mine to work with the 9800 GTX drivers (using installer) that floating around on the forum. However, I can only use the DVI port so far, everything else gives me the blue screen.

Aye, same results with my Asus EN9600GT a couple of weeks ago. QE, CI, rotation, dual displays......very pleased.

I have comprised a list of parts for my very first Hackintosh and would like to get the EN9600GT. ;)

Is your card fully functioning at all resolutions?

Thanks in advance

Hey mates.

I have a 9600GSO 512MB too, only it's Galaxy branded.

I am trying to make it fully work for a week or so, but I allways get the same problem.

I managed to make the System Profiler completely and fully recognise my card, with a Custom EFI string

(nVidia GeForce 9600GSO > 512MB -DVI/DVI or DVI/VGA) in OSx86Tools.

BUT there's a major problem - the screen is flashing blue ALL THE TIME, and I really hardly seeing

anything going on the screen.

It looks something like this (only im now using iPC Distro).

Any ideas?

thanks.

I am wondering if you have the DVI/VGA reversed in your custom EFI string. I used the UInstaller to make a custom EFI string for mine (Asus 9600GSO 512MB). I have only used the DVI port (closest to the MB) and not tried the VGA port. It also worked OK when I used the OS X Tools built-in choice for the 8800GS 384MB card (worth a try too) though of course it would not use all the memory with that one (the 9600GSO is basically the same hardware as the 8800GS).

First off thanks for the replys :)

Well, I have also tried the VGA/DVI option though sadly I the screen turned black after that

and of course I had to reinstall.

And the 8800GS EFI is giving me the exact same problem as the custom string

And by the way man, UInstaller also gave the same problem, as much as I remember.

Is it a dead end? Is the only solution switching a card?

Thanks.

One more thing, is it possible that this problem is caused because I chose the wrong (or didn't really choose any) chipset for my machine

in the customization menu?

By the way i've got a Intel DG41TY (ICH7), and right now im using the iPC 10.5.6 distro.

I would have done a test myself, though im kindda short on time these days.

Thanks.

Did anyone try the 9600gso 768mb, will it work the with 10.5.5 or 10.5.06 update ?

I have no idea if you have found a solution but here is the EFI string that I use for my 9600 GSO 768mb (with DVI/DVI). Everything works fine and haven't come across any problems.
