Could Apple prevent Leopard on PCs?

Well at the moment we are in the mercy of a few talented and skilled persons, like Maxxuss, who are the only ones currently capable of providing us with a version of OS X capable of running on vanilla PCs. If they're still around when Leopard is released I think we are in the clear, even if Apple has put some extra measures in the works.

I think it'll take a while for Leopard to become usable on a PC, but it'll probably work. That is if Maxxuss can do it.

If he goes, we are going to be stuck in Tiger...

That's why I'm getting a real Intel Mac. I'll have it for when OS X stops being hacked for regular PCs. I'll most likely keep using Tiger on my Hackintosh for as long as i can though. Hopefully someday Apple will release OS X for regular PCs.

By the time Leopard arrives, Most likely I will have a MacBook. :) I assure you that apple is learning from the Tiger 'Hacks' and Leopard will therefore better and more encrypted. Everything can be decrypted, the only problem is time :(

i was tired of the cat and mouse game with hacked OS X and I've bought a 2 ynd hand iBook (G4 1.33, 1.25GB RAM, 80GB 5400rpm drive) and a MBP (which arrived 2 days ago and it's a jewel ).

Anyway, I must admit that I would not have bought an Apple computer if I didn't have the chance to play with the hacked X86 version.

Well, if you choose compatible compenents, you shouldn´t encounter many problems, I think.

In my case, I hope to able to connect a decent lcd (for photo editing) to my iMac G5 (which has analog out only) so I can have the luxury to wait until this fall to see what happens when Leopard arrives.

If Leopard will only be marginally better than Tiger, then these speculations will be almost irrelevant. I also hope that Apple will price their hardware at a more competitive level so we could just buy macs and have all the hardware support we need. Maybe this OSX86 project will help Apple with its price strategy?

It will happen, but it won't happen on such a massive scale that some are predicting. Any company would be stupid to think their software is "uncrackable" and any one that does think such a thing deserves to have their software stolen.

So what will happen? Same thing that is happening now. Apple will release an update intended to make things better and break the Hackintosh code. The hackers will figure out a way around it, only to be thwarted again by the next update. Apple, as well as anyone else, knows they can't make it so that it is uncrackable, but it will take as many steps as it can to make sure the everyday user can't install it on a Dull.

Most likely apple WILL prevent ppl from running leopard on PCs. They could ask intel to make a CPU specially for them which uses some funny instruction set that PCs don't. Otherwise they'll probably have some sort of ActiveX which disables any hackintosh the moment it gets connected to the internet. Anyway, the reason why OSX seems to be stable is cos it only needs to support a few different hardware configurations. If it had to support the wide range of PCs, it'd probably be just as unstable as windows. The only way for an OS to be stable is to have it specifically tailored to a paticular configuration. In which case using an open source one isn't a bad idea, cos you're free to modify the kernel, the shell....you name it..

Personally, I love the interface and software of Macs with the ease of relatively few viruses and spyware (But as more users come to mac, the more spyware you shall see!), but the hardware is where I have problems. I don't like being told what I can have under the hood of my car (computer that is). I am all about customization... and macs aren't there... Just a thought-
