osx86 frog
Hi all, Thanks to this forum I was able to install Leopard 10.5.2 ToH on a Dell Dimension 4550. I had to make the partition bootable manually, but other than that it works. Yay! I am stuck at 1024x768 resolution with my ATI Radeon 7000 AGP card, though. What I've done: 1. Set "Graphics Mode"="1280x1024x32" in my boot plist file. I know it worked because the gray Apple boot screen with the pinwheel changed resolution, but once the desktop loads, I'm back at 1024x768 with no way to change it via normal means. 2. Installed ATI drivers (ATI 10.3.6 SW Update.dmg) and ATI display utilities (ATI Displays 4.5.7.dmg) from official site. Install went fine, but the ATI display utility doesn't find any ATI hardware. 3. Checked the kexts available in /System/Library/Extensions/ and didn't see anything named ATIRadeon7000*, even after I installed ATI's drivers (which otherwise didn't break anything): frogs-acpi:Extensions root# pwd /System/Library/Extensions frogs-acpi:Extensions root# ls -l | grep ATI drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Oct 11 2007 ATINDRV.kext drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Oct 11 2007 ATIRNDRV.kext drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Oct 11 2007 ATIRadeon.kext drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Oct 11 2007 ATIRadeon8500.kext drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Oct 11 2007 ATIRadeon8500DVDDriver.bundle drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Oct 11 2007 ATIRadeon8500GA.plugin drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Oct 11 2007 ATIRadeon8500GLDriver.bundle drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Oct 11 2007 ATIRadeon8500VADriver.bundle drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Oct 11 2007 ATIRadeon9700.kext drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Oct 11 2007 ATIRadeon9700DVDDriver.bundle drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Oct 11 2007 ATIRadeon9700GA.plugin drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Oct 11 2007 ATIRadeon9700GLDriver.bundle drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Oct 11 2007 ATIRadeon9700VADriver.bundle drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Oct 11 2007 ATIRadeonDVDDriver.bundle drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Oct 11 2007 ATIRadeonGA.plugin drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Oct 11 2007 ATIRadeonGLDriver.bundle drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Oct 11 2007 ATIRadeonX1000.kext drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Oct 11 2007 ATIRadeonX1000GA.plugin drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Oct 11 2007 ATIRadeonX1000GLDriver.bundle drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Oct 11 2007 ATIRadeonX1000VADriver.bundle drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Oct 11 2007 ATIRadeonX2000.kext drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Oct 11 2007 ATIRadeonX2000GA.plugin drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Oct 11 2007 ATIRadeonX2000GLDriver.bundle drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Oct 11 2007 ATIRadeonX2000VADriver.bundle drwxr-xr-x@ 4 root wheel 136 Jan 2 15:35 ATITVOut.kext 4. Searched this forum and the Web for hours and didn't come up with anything. Does anybody know where I can get the right kext for my card? I have another Radeon Rage AGP card with only 32 MB of ram, and it works out of the box except it killed my onboard ethernet (???) so I can't use that. I do have a couple of old 32-MB PCI video cards I can try as well. Any suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks!
osx86 frog
Update: Never mind, it turns out the syntax of the Graphics Mode directive in my boot plist file was wrong (damn uninformed internet forums!) I'm now happily running at my monitor's native resolution. Woot!
