Koko, I just installed the 9800 GT in my Hack. First, I did a clean install of the new iatkos, all vanilla. No graphics selections at all. Then I updated the system with software update. Then I download osx86tool. Ran it, installed pciutils, then imported graphics strings to boot.plist. Reboot and you're all set! Let me know if you have trouble. -v

I'm in the same question. It's imppossible finding the drivers for this GPU. Somebody posted that thisw chipset is very similar than 8800, so we'd able to make the drivers by our own way. If you get news, advise me, please. I'm a gamer and a music-producer, I wanna use osx86 without leaving my 9800 gt back.

Just to confirm that 9800GT 1GB works with vanilla install.

I used the boot-132 method (generic ISO - http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/4455569/Boot-132__Leopard), with retail 10.5.6 Leopard.

My hackintosh hardware:

Gigabyte EP45-DS3L

Palit GeForce 9800GT Super+ 1GB

Intel Q9400 Core2 Quad 2.66GHZ

640GB WD6400AAKS SATAII

LC Power Pro-line 914B 550W

DVD-RW LG GH22NS30 22X SATA

DDR2 4GB kit 2X2G PC1066 CL5 Silicon Power

After install, with applied chameleon (installed as explained on various topics - using copied .kext from boot-132 CD)... I was in Leopard but without video hardware acceleration (no QE/CI). After various attempts to install EFI string (manually, with OSx86 Tools, etc.), I have (finally) succeeded...

The working combination was to install (only) 10.5.7 update from online apple updates (400+ Megs, without other stuff offered), reboot, put graphic card device properties in com.apple.Boot.plist and at the same time, before restarting, delete nvkush.kext from hdd->extra->extensions directory.

Then the card was recognized properly with EFI strings. (nvkush is a .kext that was copied from Boot-132 CD)

This was my method... and I am a n00b :) , maybe it will be useful for others.

...

I pasted the hex video device data directly to com.apple.Boot.plist using following examples:

(however, you should try automated install with OSx86 Tools first - it is the same thing)

http://forum.netkas.org/index.php?topic=222.0

http://aquamac.proboards.com/index.cgi?boa...&thread=509

I modified the the files for GeForce 9800 GT 1024mb (downloaded from second aquamac link), and added the correct 'PciRoot(0x0)/Pci(0x1,0x0)/Pci(0x0,0x0)' string for my card, as explained in the first link.

Now, finally, the graphic works! :D

P.S. Now I need to install the sound... :) (edit: it is working now - thanks to: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=128982)

Hello all,

I am completely new to this and I am trying to find the right equipment. I was wondering if it mattered what manufacturer made the video card. I am looking at a Gigabyte GeForce 9800 1GB. If it matters, the motherboard I am looking at is a Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5. Thank you for your help.

I've tried nearly everything to get my PNY 9800GT with 1Gb of display memory to function. I get to the point where I can boot and run with VESA graphics no issue. I can even get QE/CI working properly, but the issue is my LCD flashes between snowy static and a perfect display, mostly static, every 4-5 seconds. I know I have QE/CI because I can connect remotely to the desktop with no issues at all. This is with and without EFI strings.

Any hints? I really don't want to fall back to my 7300GT!

Thanks in advance!

iATKOS V7 10.5.7 fresh install

4Gb of RAM

Intel Q6600 Core 2 Quad

That is how I got my PNY 9800GT 1GB DDR3 video card to work

Ok, since I tried that method, I'm guessing that the Nvidia kexts on both my 10.5.7 and my 10.5.6 installs are different/not stock. I have a new 13" MBP running 10.5.7, do you have any idea which kexts I should grab to insure I have stock Apple drivers? I'm assuming NV*.kext and GeForce*.kext, but you know what happens when you assume.....

Hi, I've been trying eveything i can think off to get my card to work.. I don't know what I'm doing wrong... Here's my specs...

Dell E521 <with many replaced parts*..

nVidia GeForce 9800 GT 512mb (EVGA)*

AMD x2 64 6000+*

Broadcom 440x

nForce chipset.. not quite sure..

Sigmatel 9227 Audio

And I choose the following options at install(iPC 10.5.6 Final or something)..

9.5.0 VooDoo Kernel

Legacy Time Machine Fix

No Video Drivers

AppleNForceATA nForce Drivers

Sigmatel 9227

AppleBCM440xEthernet

Patched USB Drivers

Seatbelt.kext(For VooDoo .dmg mounting issue)

Everything works PERFECTLY except... QE/Ci.. well.. and res changing and such..

I've tried using the nVidia Installer 9xxx v2(I think it's called) and using the 8800 GT efi string(from OSX86 Tools, someone said it worked, it didn't for me), I've tried using this method for the 9800 GT(not 8800 GT like before) and it still didn't work.. Now... when I say it doesn't work here.. I mean the mouse gets erratic and unusable and sometimes when QE\CI decides to enable on boot.. The top bar is invisble and just the text shows and the mouse stil lags erratically.. The resolution changing works but it's completely unusable.. Also when I check the System Profiler while it's doing this it says Supported for everything.. It just LAGS..

Using NVkush gives me the same results.

NVinject gave me a black screen at boot.

I don't remember what NVdarwin did but I remember it not working..

I feel like I'm SOOOO close to getting everything running flawlessly.. Someone please enlighten me as to what is going wrong..

Wow I feel like a total idiot, but since I asked the question, I'm going to tell everyone what happened. I was in fact *fully* functional, but it turns out that my stupid DVI KVM can't handle the bandwidth of the 9800GT's output! The KVM was what was making it flash. I feel dumb because I have over 20 yrs of experience futzing around with PCs and I FAILed to even think of removing the KVM from the picture since *every* other adapter connected to it works fine at 1920x1200.

I'm pretty psyched that this is working now! Thanks for all guides and suggestions!

Hello,

I am planning to use Gigabyte 9800GT 1GB Silent card for my hackintosh htpc. Has anyone had any succes with this card sorry iam kind of new in this.

Heard many people saying that its trouble with cards that have also HDMI etc. This card has ofcourse DVI output so I am wondering if its trouble to choose this card?

It would just be perfect for HTPC it has passive cooling:)

my mobo is GA-EP45-UD3P...other parts are still under consideration.

I was hoping some relatively easy way to install OSX like Empire efi?

I have backround using real macs about 10 years they just dont have HTPC solution Iam looking for also interested in installing linux in same HTPC.

Sorry for asking stupid questions this all is so new to me.

I've tried various strings and NVinject.kexts, with no success.

I suspect it may have something to do with the fact that there are only two DVI ports in the back, and I'm connecting it to my monitor with a VGA converter that came with the card.

Though it could be that I need an update, so far I've had no success on that. I'm using the iPortable x86 install, it's the only method that I've got working (couldn't get through iAtKos or Kalyway because of the dreaded "still waiting for root device", and VM install was a flop).

Has anybody gotten this working? It's killing me, I've spent a good month trying to figure this out and I have literally everything else working.

Hello,

I use Aquamacs method for my 9800gt and it is working.

but I got this STRANGE issue

1. system profiler shows QE not supported, when opening system profiler for the first time

2. run CBench OpenGL test and runs smooth (about 6500 points)

3. after reopening system profiler it shows Quartz Extreme is enabled ?!?!

Do you guys use kernel flag "graphisenabler" ?!

Please tell me if u have any suggestions, how to enable QE from the start

The only thing I did with my setup was used OSX86 Tools. I have a NVIDIA 9800GTX+ by BFG Tech with 1 GB of ram.

Works flawlessly.

Thanks

It doesn't work for me. I have an ASUS EN9800GT 1GB and I think I tried every method suggested here and whatever I found in Google. Here is what I'm currently using:

 1. Booting with EFI boot_v9 which I just replaced with Chameleon 2 RC4, actually booting the latter from Linux grub
 2. I removed all injector kexts (Titan came with the distro and I also tried Natit, NVInject and can't remember what else)
 3. I'm using EFI string in com.apple.Boot.plist which seems to be properly "injected" by Chameleon
 4. Edited Info.plist in NVDANV50Hal.kext and NVDAResman.kext to add the device ID (used 0x060510de&0xffffffff) in IOCPIMatch. Geforce.kext already had 0x000010de&0x0000ffff so that should match "all NVIDIA" devices (vendor 10de)

Now for the EFI string - after trying to generate my own with instructions from that famous aquamac thread, also with OSX86Tools and UInstaller, I only get "Generic NVIDIA" chipset detected. What seems to work best was getting an EFI string from projectosx/hardware, converting it to xml (plist) with gfxutil, then changing the device string, e.g. PciRoot(0x1)/Pci(0xe,0x0)/Pci(0x0,0x0) with my own and convert it back to hex and add it to com.apple.Boot.plist.

Now with all that the profiler finally shows my chipset as NVIDIA 9800 GT and shows proper Device ID: 0605, however, there is still no Quartz Extreme!

Now, how do I make sure I have the latest NV and GeForce kexts and OpenGL framework? Do the "stock" ones from Apple actually support 9800 GT cards or do I need some "special" ones? Can somebody with working 9800 GT under 10.5.8 provide theirs? Or am I missing something?

P.S. Fixed it myself. It *is* a matter of having the right drivers. Installed 9f23installer (seems to be 10.5.5 nvidia kexts) and LeopardGraphicsUpdate1.0 (with Pacifist).

Hey, I'm hopelessly trying to get QE running on my 10.6.2 hackintosh - I've tried using OSx86 tools and clicking Enable QuartzGL and rebooting but nothing.

I installed everything inside of ##### and the card is recognized by system profiler.

EFIStudio 1.1 generates a nice looking plist and I write it to com.apple.Boot.plist but I get no QE at restart. This and sleep are the only things keeping me from having a 100% hackintosh and I need Windows to update to a newer BIOS for marks working DSDT file.

Just built a Gigabyte EP45-UD3P based machine for a friend last night and we are having problems with it that we suspect are related to the graphics card. I have the same setup with a Sapphire 4890HD Vapor-X card and have no problems.

Details: The machine boots and runs fine, QE/CL are enabled without any problems or adjustments to the boot loader we are using.

Problem: If you do "About this Mac" it flashes a blue desktop background screen and then goes back to the desktop. The "About this Mac" pop-up window never show up.
