BlackCH
Hi BlackCH,What about the Language Packs V2? I'd be happy to test them Regards, Naunaud. Look at demon, been there for some days already. They should work without problems on the new ISO (in fact they should work fine with any 10.5.6 installation) as they come untouched from the 10.5.6 retail disk. BlackCH
@Arial, you have to teach me how to take those long installer screenshots mate!...
Mallison10
First check you have 'PCGenRTL8139Ethernet.kext' on /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/ . Also the folder should NOT contain AppleRTL8139Ethernet.kext. If so then can be a problem about your PCI buses not being readed right. Try installing 'IOPCIFamily254' or 'PCCard_Fix' (one at the time) from 'Others' menu. theres 5 alc 888 drivers on the DVD. You have to try them all (one at the time!). If you dont want to reinstall, just extract the content of the package drivers (XxX.ISO/System/Installation/Packages/Patches/Sound) on to your desktop and install it with kexthelper. I apologize if this is a dumb question, but I'm still new to the Mac OS. I have no sound on my Compaq C700 series laptop. I am running the XxX 10.5.6 Install. I have tried to navigate to the (XxX.ISO/System/Installation/Packages/Patches/Sound) on the Install Disk and on the raw ISO and cannot find it. I have even installed "ShowAll" thinking that maybe it was a hidden directory... still no luck. If anyone could point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated. It seems that I'm only missing audio (not sure about mic). Thank you!
fyrekrig
Try with alcinject instead of HDAEnabler.<BR>Other thing: Everytime you install a new kext boot with -f to be sure the kextcache is flushed and the new kext loadedSee if I understand you correct. I try all the different AppleHDA.kext together with ALCinject.kext using Kexthelper?

BlackCH
Hi Guys Just wanted to know 1) is XxX a vanilla install?? means can I upgrade normally from Apple if any new version comes out (e.g. 10.5.7 ) without any problems / hacks?? 2) what is the advantage / disadvantage of installation of XxX ISO over a retail ISO with boot 132 ?? Regards 1- You can get a clean vanilla install if you wish by not selecting anything else than 'Essential System Software'. Oviously you need to install a couple of extra kexts in order to boot a fully vanilla OSX on PC: Thats 'Essential kexts' which installs decrypter, CPUPM disabler, smbios injector, PS2 keyboard/mouse support (last two are not really nedeed to be able to boot). From there on you need to add chipset support for your mobo, audio and network drivers, etc. This vanilla install would survive an apple update ONLY if the apple update doesnt overwrite patched files (usually chipset, sound, network are supported by patched kexts files). So theres an option to put these modifyed kexts on a alternative location and have them loaded from there: /Extra/Extensions/ . In this way when you install an update your patched kexts will remain untouched and your system will be fully operational (hopefully). If you like this method you need to do it yourself; this is, take note of the kexts you install and then move them from their original location (/System/Library/Extensions/) to /Extra/Extensions/. It is worth to say that not every kext will load from there but if you try you will figure out... BTW, you need to install PCEfi 9 for this method 2- adventages: is easy, all you need are already there.... disadventages: This kind of distros (XxX, iDeneb, etc) can keep you 'in the dark' about things that are good to know. A boot 132 method would demand you to know exactly what files you need for your system, and what to replace if a file gets overwritten by an update; boot 132 requires some postinstall work (install drivers), which I think is good thing to know... 3- a PPF is coming.... I know it says 'Final' but I couldnt help it.

Arial
I found the following alternatives alc885-889a_ad2 ALC888.Audio ALC888_3.Audio alc888_3lineout alc888_ad0 alc888_ad2 ALC888d.Audio and tried them one at a time by installing the various AppleHDA.kext and HDAEnabler.kext with Kexthelper. However still no luck! I am sure that I have seen in some posts (which I can't seem to find now) who got sound input working on ALC888 chipsets. Will appreciate additional suggestions. Try to use different kernel, sometime it will work. then try again using previous kernel. I'm using Abit IP35-E and select HDAEnabler & alc888_3_Lineouts on custom install. EDIT I just read your other post here http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=104303 you are using Asrock Conroe1333-D667 right? then your Southbridge Chipset must be Intel ICH7 http://www.ocworkbench.com/2007/asrock/Con...333-D667/g1.htm next time post your full detail specs try this kext: Realtek ALC888 for ICH7, ICH8, VIA,.. ~1MB http://rapidshare.com/files/105992875/ALC888Audio.mpkg.zip http://www.megaupload.com/?d=66H5A8AW yea.. maybe you will get active Lineout only. BlackCH
like I dont know what DSDT is / decrypter / disabler / injector etc.. Google? As I said before, to me the installer little info window is a place to put a small detail of the item (name, version, short description), no more. I can not really explain you what DSDT is in this little window. Really, if you dont know what those things are, first read a little about before install. If you have a doubt about certain item just run a google search. Anyway, I'll see if I can make the things a bit more clear
phonghunter
UPDATE 03/02/2009A new ISO is up at the usual place! Although the installer has nearly the same options as before (includes the PPF1 and the unreleased PPF2) this is a whole new ISO based on 10.5.6 retail disk (build 9G66). This will get rid of all those localization bugs present on the Rev 2 ISO. The old ISO was based on a 10.5.4 disc, with a hacked 10.5.6 combo update on it; this hack was ugly and it was causing the problems some of you had noticed. With this new ISO you can get a clean retail install. Besides that main highlight theres a few more small additions: -AnV 10.5.6 kernel (AMD/Intel) -Nforce mpc67 boot support -NVkush custom ram bug fixed -mkextMaker.app bug fixed In case you need to install any language pack use the XxX_Language_Pack v2 (it will be uploaded after the ISO start having enough seeds) to avoid incompatibilities. UPDATE 24/1/2009 Due reported problems related with installing extra language packages (Finder crashing, pref panes with strange characters, etc) I decided to release a post language installer with all the languages missing in the ISO. I've done some tests here and the bugs seems to be gone, so please re-test and let me know. Get XxX_Language_Pack at the usal places UPDATE 9/1/2009 PPF1 for the XxX_10.5.6 ISO is out http://www.megaupload.com/?d=J9U2WEIZ (Installer screenshot by Arial) Addons & Fixes: -10.5.5 seatbelt.kext installed by default with non 9.6.0 kernels (fixes KP while mounting DMGs) -DVD player fixed -GMAx3000/3500 fixed -10.5.5 NVkexts (for NV FX5xxx graphics cards) -AppleGraphicsUpdate1.0 -Alps FFScrolls Glide Trackpad driver -AppleHPET disabler -10.5.5 keyboard prefpane -AHCI 10.5.6 fix -Local time toggle -MassStorage 205 kext -USBFamily 328 kexts -IOPCIFamily 254 kext -NVkush for 320,512,640,768 mb cards -New alc 662 -New Sigmatel 9223 -NVinject for DVI output (8400gs/8600) -mkextMaker -FunctionFlip prefpane ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For people that have already installed, Im adding here some important fixes that will eventually be added onto PPFs. Also if you dont want to wait for the PPF you can just use these after-install packages as after install. BUG: Finder Preferences pane crashing after installing any extra lenguage packages. Fix: http://www.mediafire.com/?j1uxngmjmyz BUG: 10.5.5 seatbelt.kext missing on Voodoo 9.5 kernels. This will cause KP when mountings DMGs. (Install this only if you DONT USE vanilla kernel) Fix: BUG: DVDPlayer app doesnt install properly. Fix: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=XI22U9X9 Just run the package after main installation. The new ISO has been just upped (look at the green demon). It includes all the drivers from the previous 10.5.5 release (with all the PPFs) plus some new kexts for 10.5.6. Please test; 10.5.6 has introduced some changes and some of the old drivers might not work (could even generate kernel panics). As always new add-ons and bugs will be handled by PPFs. Any bug report must contain detailed hardware (CPU, Chipset, GPU, ATA/SATA controller, -those are the most important ones-. Motherboard model), detail of the items selected at the install process, and offcourse detailed description of the issue itself. Reports failing to comply with this guidelines will be most probably ignored. Since this ISO is based on the 10.5.5 one the old thread may be helpfull to track problems you might encounter: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=134861 Merry christmas! hi everybody Mac OS 10.5.6, i get it when booting from dvd, I get errror: panic (cpu 0 called 0x002D950D): "nfs_boot_init not with 6 \ n" @ / voodookernel/xnu-1228.7.58/bsd/nfs/nfs_vfsops.c : 851 " Can you help me? sanctimonious
Hello! I'm posting here, as it seems to be quite active... I've just had a big scare trying to install iPC, which almost ruined my desktop. Someone told me, however, that XxX is the best distribution/release to try, so I would like to get your advice, before I attempt the installation. This is my setup: Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6750, 2.67GHz RAM: 4GB DDR2 Motherboard: P5N-E SLI (BIOS is latest version; Specs: http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&...mp;modelmenu=2) Chipset: NVIDIA nForce 650i SLI Ethernet: Gigabit LAN featuring AI Net2 Marvell 88E1116 PHY Audio: Realtek ALC883 6 -Channel Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTS 8800 640MB (PCIe) Wireless: D-Link DWL-G122 USB (RT2500) P/S 2 Keyboard Hard drives: It gets tricky here: Internal: 1xIDE; two NTFS partitions: one with MBR,Vista & Vista boot loader, another one for storage only. 1xSATA: one NTFS partition: storage only External: 1 USB SATA Encasing: Four partitions: 40GB Ubuntu Linux (Linux boot loader installed on partition); 4GB swap partition; 79GB NTFS storage partition; the rest is HFS+ formatted, ready to accept OSX86. Is there anything that I should pay particular attention to when configuring the installation? In particular, I am interested in (a) making sure that I will not have to change BIOS settings all the time to accommodate OSx86, (b ) that I will be able to use the Vista Bootloader before the OSx86 bootloader. sanctimonious
I tried to perform the installation after all, restarted, booted back into Vista, used EasyBCD to add the OSx86 into the bootloader, but when I restart and attempt to boot, I get a "chain booting error". Has no BIOS emulator been installed by default? What have I missed? I would really appreciate some help. Thank you.

Has no BIOS emulator been installed by default? What have I missed? I would really appreciate some help.Thank you. EFI emulator (bootloader) you mean; Yes, Installs chameleon by default. I do not use Vista nor EasyBCD so I cannot say something specific about. The installer works fine on a fresh partitioned disk, but I guess you want to keep your vista installation. you can try this: Go to start/run type: 'diskpart' (without quotes) and enter. A command line window should appear. Then: >Select disk 0 (the disk of your installation) >list partition (will show a numbred list of the partitions) >select partition X (X=number from OSX partiton) >Active then restart. You should now boot to osx bootloader (press F8 at boot) and from there choose which partiton you want to boot (OSX, Vista, etc). TRY THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK, IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG YOU WONT BE ABLE TO BOOT BACK TO VISTA
