Mac won't boot

Hi!

I'm in desperate need of some help! I am trying to install Tiger on an Intel Macbook. Now the discs I have are supposedly 'retail' discs and did NOT ship with a machine. When I try to boot the laptop up off the cd, it won't boot; it just tries to boot off the HD.

As a workaround, I put the laptop in TDM and ran 'osinstall.mpkg' on my macbook pro and set the destination be the firewire drive in the macbook. The problem I'm having is that when I boot it up, I get the infamous question mark on a folder flashing on the screen.

Now, my feeling is that I have to 'bless' the drive. I've tried to do it with this command....

sudo bless -folder /Volumes/Macintosh\ HD\ 1/System/Library/CoreServices -bootefi

But that didn't do anything for me. I really don't know if I'm even on the right track or not!

Anyways, if anybody can shed some light on this, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!
