Hi, Im building my first hakintosh right now and got everything except the GPU

I thought about the 3870 but it would be a waste of money when you can get a 4870 for nearly the same price.

Yesterday, the Office of a friend of mine updated their MacPros and are willing to give me their old 2600 (they have 2 left)

Still i would like to have a realy good GPU for gaming in XP. is it possible to build in both cards and sort of deactivate the 4870 in MacOS and the 2600 in XP (or just in MacOs and use both in XP, probably even in Crossfire-mod)

I read somewere in this forums that it is still not possible to run 2x2600 in MacOSx86 at the same time, or is it? this would me my other, less beautiful sollution.

Thanks for any Help, or Link, or anything except commentaries for my grammar, Sorry for that, by the way :P

it works this way for me:

i have 2600xt and 4850

inital graphics is set to 2600xt, with natit, 2600xt works fine in osx, 4850 doesnt at all

for xp/vista, i just installed ati drivers and disabled outputs on 2600xt (my lcd has two connectors, vga and dvi, both connected to videocards (one to 2600xt and another one to 4850)

made output on 4850 to be main screen for windows, that's all

i dont need to go to bios for multibooting.

windows shows it's boot screen on 2600xt, but then, after drivers loaded, only 4850 has an output. all is fine.

only problem i have - some time to update drivers for win I need to pull out one of cards

So, do i get it right? I put the 2600 in my first PCI slot (then it is my kind-of main GPU) and the 4870 in my second, then i disable the 2600 in XP (driver options i guess), and do nothing in MacOS because it doesnt care, cause it doesnt know what to do with the 4870

I do nothing in BIOS. and thats it?

I have two DVI-Ins on my monitor so he chooses the one he get the signal from. could there be a problem? can he get two singals from two cards (and then explode or something  :P just kidding) malfunction. he shouldnt. or should he?

(is a monitor in english a he or a it?)

it's not matter what port u will install 2600xt in, jsut set it to be inital graphics port, in bios, PEG - first pcie port, PEG2 - second

for windows - u doesnt disable device in device manager, you only need to make screen on 48x0 to be main desktop, and uncheck option - extend my desktop to this screen on 2600xt screens

Ok, I try it. Thank you very much for the fast answer.

I think its the best sollution to use the HD 4xxx series on a Hackintosh, why would you need such a fast card on Mac anyway? an 2600 cost about 50€ retail and probably much less on ebay.

well thanks again, I'll try it at the weekend

Dude, it's simple.

When you wanna use XP for gaming (should install Vista...), just put in the 4870 and take the 2600PRO out.

When you wanna use OS X, just take out the 4870 and put in the 2600PRO.

Boom, problem solved.

WOW! Really?! Great!  I never Saw this that way! Wow! Thanks!     :D

I really REALLY hope you were joking (especially the Vista part)
