Like the IOUSBFamily that got an update, the Firewire IO kits seem to be hit as well.

Try replaceing

IOFireWireAVC.kext

IOFireWireFamily.kext

IOFireWireIP.kext

IOFireWireSBP2.kext

IOFireWireSerialBusProtocolTransport.kext

with the older 10.5.5 versions.

Admittedly, that's a shotgun approach since I am not sure which actually contains the conflict with your board/hardware but that should re-enable your ports.

remember to chown/chmod and reboot with -F flag after doing 'the surgery'.

PS, i would force a time machine backup before you start too, so you can un-f(()* the thing if it breaks.

PPS, just so you know, I don't have the FireWire issue so I cant say I've tested it and it works..... good luck

Same issue in 10.5.6 update here with P5W DH Deluxe

but no problem with a Intel DQ965gf ?

In IORegisteryExplorer we can see there is a lack of Device_ID and Vendor_ID under AppleFWOHCI but it seem's to be in the binary and not in the plist ?

Hi,

i tried replacing

IOFireWireAVC.kext

IOFireWireFamily.kext

IOFireWireIP.kext

IOFireWireSBP2.kext

IOFireWireSerialBusProtocolTransport.kext

from 10.5.5 but it made no difference,

i'm also seeing that my USB memory stick is no longer working in 10.5.6

profiler see's it on a usb high speed bus but OSX dose not mount the device

other usb devices seem to be working fine, other devices don't show as high speed bus,

don't know if that has anything to do with it?

i removed IPFirewall.kext & my USB key drive is now working? :D

well that only worked intill reboot,

i restored the original IPFirewall.kext

& then replaced

AppleIntelGMAX3100FB.kext

AppleIntelIntergratedFramebuffer.kext

IOPCIFamily.kext

IONDRVSupport.kext

from a 10.5.5 install, as they where all new files from the date of the 10.5.6 update install,

usb memory stick is working fine now but still no firewire :o

:P

OK,

i now have firewire working, :)

i restored all the 10.5.6 kext's (except seatbelt.kext, that's still a 10.5.5 version) & then installed these 2 kexts

http://rapidshare.de/files/41153635/AHCI_Fix_10_5_6.zip.html

(posted in the 10.5.6 update thread by smcpipin)

& now firewire is working again, (usb is playing up again but i'll track down witch kext is needed from 10.5.5 & post back)

Update on firewire issues:

on GA-P35-DS3R, when I boot without dsdt.aml, Firewire is back in system profile.

Retail, EFI v9.

Must have kexts inside "Extra" folder: AppleDecrypt, Disabler, SMBIOSResolver, OpenHaltRestart

I'm just not sure who can and who can not boot without DSDT.aml

Removing dsdt.aml was no help to me.

After the update to 10.5.6 I have lost not only firewire, but ethernet too (integrated Intel Pro 100/VE).

The weird thing is that during 1 boot, both devices were working fine (!) but after I rebooted, all was back to normal (no ethernet, no firewire)...

Any ideas?

Should be in the root of your drive.

Booting up without DSDT.aml gives me all types of problems, USB mouse and keyboard needs to be moved to another usb port to get working, restart hangs and it also doesnt bring back my firwire.

Seems to be a problem with asus motherboards.

I also have a PK5-VM and Im having the same problem. I also can't get time machine to work. Keep getting message"Time Machine could not be configured. The built-in network interface could not be found." I have tried some of the fixes on the site but nothing so far.

This happened to me too. My ViaRhine network card was working correctly, then suddendly it stopped working after a reboot. I solved the problem by reinstalling dsdt.aml with the "New HPET Option"
