Hello everyone. Im going to make a Hackintosh, with a MacPro/G5 case. I want to make it work, out of the box, so Im using this list. I live in Iceland, so the websites are in icelandic! These are the parts Im thinking about buying.

Motherboard:

Gigabyte S775 GA-EP45-DS4 - http://www.tolvutek.is/product_info.php?cP...oducts_id=17588

Gigabyte S775 GA-EP45-DS5 - http://www.tolvutek.is/product_info.php?cP...oducts_id=17589

HDD:

Samsung HD103UJ 1TB - http://www.computer.is/vorur/7001

Processor:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 2.6GHz 45nm 12MB - http://www.tl.is/vara/8620

RAM:

Where do I get the cheapest RAM that is good? I prefer 4gb single chips, or 8gb (2x4gb) kit.

Case:

Which one is better for this, MacPro or G5 case?

Cooling:

Thermalright Ultra Extreme 120 - http://kisildalur.is/?p=2&id=510

Tacens Ventus Pro 120mm - http://kisildalur.is/?p=2&id=819 - Is it noisy? The dB is 9-16.

Video Card:

8800GT. Can I use any 9*00 cards OOB?

LCD:

I own a 22" LG Flatron :).

Keyboard and mouse:

I own Mighty Mouse and Apple Alu keyboard.

Bluetooth:

Can I install bluetooth to the internal USB? Hate external {censored}!

Wifi:

Card that works OOB. What card can I get for cheap that works good? Needs to be 802.11 N.

Will this work OOB with a retail DVD? Anybody has suggestions? They don't have to be in Iceland.

Any of them Gigabyte P45 boards will work. I have the GA-EP45-DS5. Yes retail, GUID, EFI v9 10.5.6 without DSDT Patch (C2D C2Q only) I can't see a problem with any of your other hardware. This board works OTB a treat. It also as the same audio chip 889a as a real Mac Pro, full ins & outs. Good luck with your build.

Where did you get the case, and how much did it cost? How much are you having to mod on it?

I might try doing this over the summer if I know everything will work, but I'm not sure if a mac case can hold 5 or 6 hard drives...

The MacPro case hold four HDD's, the G5 case only two's but you can easily add two or four more.

Hello everyone and excuse me for late answers. I got all of the items. I got:

GA-EP45-DS5

Q6600

Thermalright Ultra Extreme

1tb Samsung

8800 Ultra

2x2gb Kingston 800mhz RAM

I have not started modding the case yet, just ripped everything out :P. Will start soon ;).

I am a Humac employee, and there was a dusty G5 case laying around there, waiting for me to mod him :).

I already installed Mac OS X 10.5.6 on it with Boot-132. I was not so happy. The sound did not work OOB, so I had to use a kext. Also the 8800Ultra was not working so good, propably need's Nvinject. Sleep/Turnoff/Restart didn't work too, had to use Psystars kext. And it froze randomly, propably because of the 8800 Ultra. There is one EFi-X chip here for sale (propably the only EFi-X chip in Iceland :P), which i can get for a good price and I might be buying it :). Btw, sorry about my english...

Just contacted Lian-Li, and asked if they could sell me a backplate. Lets cross the fingers!

And? I assume you were lucky? I'm asking because I'll also have to mod a G5 case to fit in an ATX MoBo. As replacement for a MoBo Tray I want to use some LianLi Backplate. (Or some other crappy aluminium plate, meh. ^^)

What would you guys suggest about the rear part of the G5 case? replace the whole rear plate or cutting severel parts out? I'm tending to only cut space out to fit in a alu plate with cut out holes for the ports of the MoBo. Is that wise?

Bluetooth:

Can I install bluetooth to the internal USB? Hate external {censored}!

i got an internal pci usb card which gave me an extra 4 ports on the back PLUS one extra internal port. i stuck a standard bluetooth dongle in there and it works just fine. i'm using it with a wireless mighty mouse in both OS X and windows without issue. it turns on and off from the menu bar. and the best bit is it's inside and no one can see it. it you want to get really fancy like i did you can get a usb extension lead and run it up through the case near the top so you get the best possible signal. (assuming it's going under a desk).

the other solution to this problem which i would have used if my case only had 2 extra usb sockets instead of 4 is to wire a usb to internal usb cable and connect it to one of the internal headers. this again should work just fine.
