Got the P5E-VM HDMI, however, boot-132 does not start my retail DVD. Anyway, Boot-132 methods often sucks with 10.5.5 update, so gave that up.

Installed ideneb v1.3, which only works with onboard X3500 graphics (without QE/CI). Then installed the new 9f23 nvinstaller stuff with efistudio, switched on the nvidia card while switching off integrated graphics. Still does not recognize 256 MB Nvidia graphic card. When trying to boot further, just getting black screen.

Cant use nvinstaller .52 - which worked on my other setup with 10.5.5 ideneb - as I do not get a 256MB card option.

This sucks!

Anyway to give this a new try without reinstalling the whole sh***?

With ideneb 1.3 your video card works fine if you only select Nvinject 0.2.1 256 during installation, without 9f23 and EFI string

Good luck, Giorgio.

Hey Giorgio,

thanks very much! It's working as you promised.

I am wondering however: I thought 10.5.5 wouldn't work with injectors anymore.

Besides, at darwin it still says Vesa 3.0 14MB, only after booting into OSX GUI I find my 256MB Nvidia in system profiler.

In contrast, my old GF 7300 on my P5K-VM did not work with injection, but only with nvinstaller .52.

At booting, Darwin reads the firmware of the videocard, tha shows only the minimum to work in Framebuffer mode (14 MB in VESA Mode); when OSX is charging, nvinject (or any other injector such us Nvkush, NVDarwin, EFI string) reads the right amount of videocard's RAM memory.

My graphics cards behave the same way.

I apologize for my bad English.

If you have only one monitor and you want change resolution, with 8500GT (all RAM size) appears a blue sreen: is normally: restart manually your computer within 15 seconds and at next boot you'll have the right resolution.

Hey Giorgiom

thanks for your support. There is no need to apologize for bad English.

Right, I noticed that blue screen upon resolution change as well. But then it works fine.

With my old nvidia 7300 and the nvinstaller method I don't have that issue - it is also recognized in darwin with correct vram size. To conclude: the 7000 series is better with regard to compatibility? Or is there any chance to get the 8500GT running in the same manner?

By the way, you got the same NIC. I am having an issue there, too: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=138855 Do you face a similar problem / NIC not working after wake up?

NVInject 0.2.1 didn't work for my 8500GT 256mb with Leopard 10.5.5. It used to work until 10.5.4.

If you update to 10.5.5, use an injector called NVDarwin. Search for it in this forum.

I didn't need to mess with any other kexts. Just installed NVDarwin.kext and it made Leopard recognize my 8500GT correctly. Working with Vanilla original video kexts.

sounds cool. Any other injector "side effects"?

NVinject works for me, but I got it straight from the ideneb 1.3 DVD with 10.5.5. Maybe if you have 10.5.4 --> install injector --> update to 10.5.5 things behave differently?

NVDarwin seems to work just as Nvinject did for me...

now tried retail DVD 10.5.1 --> 10.5.4 update --> nvkush = works perfectly. Don't dare 10.5.5 update yet.

NVDarwin is a compilation of NVInject 0.2.2 source.

On NVInject website you'll only find version 0.2.1 compiled and 0.2.2 source.

I didn't test 10.5.4 before updating to 10.5.5.

I'm using a retail installation from DVD 10.5.4. Updated to 10.5.5 right after installation.

One good thing in NVDarwin (nvinject 0.2.2) is that I didn't need to edit any vanilla original video kexts. Just install NVDarwin.kext and it works.

On NVInject 0.2.1 (Leopard 10.5.4), I had to edit some kexts (nvdaresman.kext etc) to make it work properly.

So I can put NVDarwin.kext on the boot-132 disk /stick and get graphics working properly?

I don't like the boot-132 usb stick method because it simply doesn't load some kexts. That's because some kexts have dependencies and need to be together with other kexts (like AppleHDA.kext) to work.

Also there's the thing with string "OSBundleRequired = root". And I think that is a pain the ass.

I didn't test NVDarwin.kext with boot-132 usb stick method.

Go ahead and test it. Put NVDawrin.kext on your usb stick (initrd.img), edit the string OSBundleRequired with value "root" and try.

If it doesn't work, then it's another kext that won't work with boot-132 trick. Install NVDarwin.kext to your /System/Library/Extensions folder and maybe it will work without any modification to other kexts (like mine).

Oh! I forgot to mention one thing: I've added my specific NVCAP for 8500GT 256mb in NVDarwin.kext. So, look for the NVCAP value of your vga card and add it to NVDarwin.kext before installing.

I used NVKush without altering the NVCAP and it seems to work. Don't see errors in verbose mode booting.

I also installed Chameleon on the Hard Disk, since the usb stick method takes too long to boot (being impatient).

What I really would like to see is full compatibility of the graphic card. I only get that with my 7300 card which is detected with its full 128MB when darwin comes up.
