This is the thread for Voodoo RC.

Everyone is encouraged to participate in the poll above so we can decide the success level of the RC as we prepare for final release. Depending on the poll we may advance or delay the final release

Errata - Documentation update.

Page 5

- List of contributors, testers list inadvertently omitted sckevyn for helping test the SSE3 emulator

- The IRC server is incorrect, please reverse the subdomain and domain names.

- Suggested kexts: def --> dfe

- Getting in touch: mailing list address inadvertently omitted: http://groups.google.com/group/xnu-dev/topics

Unlike what the docs say, it has come to our attention that AMD systems lower than a fully updated 10.5.5 are having problems. We recommend updating fully to the latest 10.5.5 updates.

Thanks Team xnu-dev Mercurysquad everyone.

I wonder if this RC will not crash when used from within a vmware machine in windows xp that runs a native physical hard disk leopard 10.5.5 installation? - I can do that with 10.5.3 / Modbin 9.3, but 10.5.3 / voodoo [any] or 10.5.4 /.5 / voodoo [any] gives kernel panic.

It is not usual to want to do that, but sometimes I like to have access to Leopard from XP this way, i.e. native from within the VMWare environment...

I will try the RC and report later.

Wow guys. This is so freakin' awesome. I can't wait to get home to try it!

Thank you!!!

:(

It's a celebration bit**es!!

EDIT: OK, I am testing it right now. So far everything is perfect. Sleep is working 100% (which never did in the past).

I downloaded and installed all of the updates except for the combo update to 10.5.5 (using 10.5.2 right now) and they work great.

I am planning on using the Boot-132 method in order to update without having to replace/fix kext files afterwards.

This is a dream come true, guys.

My god!!! thanks!!!, I was having issues with iTunes and QuikTime crashing at startup and with media files!

Now it works!!

Now I have a question... If I install an update that has already been patched for AMD, will it affect on something?

If I want to know if an update has a new mach_kernel on it, shall I look it up with Pacifist?

Ok, sorry for the dumb questions!

Thanks!

Well.. the bad news is that i got 2 Kernel Panics already with the RC.. The first one was when i tried to move 2 (unnecessary) folders from Applications to Trash, and the second one was 10 minutes later when i pressed on Skype's icon in dock...

Photos attached.

Nothing problematic so far, RC is doing fine here in my old SSE2 P4 machine. Performance is improved over Beta 2c with Chameleon 1.0.11. Geekbench is showing 29.18% increase in scores. The only problem that appears this time is described below:

TSC: Verification of clock speed FAILED! Fallback correction was performed. Please update bootloader.

I am giving the screenshot of boot screen here also.

Now I want to show the performance changes across different kernels here.

Geekbench scores

with Modbin 9.4.0 and Chameleon 1.0.10 : 1010

with Voodoo_beta2c and Chameleon 1.0.10 : 1738! (I still don't know how I got that performance :P )

with Voodoo_beta2c and Chameleon 1.0.11 : 747! :(

with Voodoo_RC and Chameleon 1.0.11 : 965 (Still low  )

Check the scores from here : Geekbench.zip

Results of System Information Collection and Test 5 is posted below:

It also seems that the error is from macfuse, maybe if you test some things with the ntfs drives unmounted you won't have this problem...

well, anyway i'll still test the kernel all day long today.. so maybe i'll find the cause, till now no more KPs except those 2.. still curious how can interact those 2 folders and skype with my NTFS partition.. Plus, i never had KPs earlier..

I dont know why either, but the KP seems to be referring to the google macfuse. So it must be something with that...

Bad news here.

Many apps crash:

* Safari, Textedit, Terminal, System Preferences, Adium, Translateit

some work without any problem:

* Finder, iTunes, Photoshop, MS word 2008

can't even send a report since the terminal/sys prefs won't run  :wallbash:

Specs: Asus M2n-se MX/Athlon X2 4200/1GB/IDE drives - Leo4all 10.5.2

Will try to boot with some busratio parameters.

also got some errors when booting, had to do with some /usr/lib/* files

My machine booted up successfully with the RC, everything looks good till now, as a friend of mine is joking - "Congrats, u've just upgraded to Intel" :wallbash:) as my AMD Athlon X2 5600+ is recognized as "Intel Core Duo" :help:

Same here, changed my laptop cpu from AMD Turion64 to Intel Core Solo :) ; anyway, fixed.

On a serious note, everything runs smooth so far, no problems. Will jump into deeper tests later today and will report back. Great release!

Well,

"/usb/lib/libxml2...

/usr/lib/icu/icud36l.dat" ... error (seatbelt)

Tried to boot with busratio & fsb, didn't help.

As reported by the -tscpanic flag:

TSC verification of clock speed: PASSED

TSC: freq: 2210.38237MH ; fsb=200.912568MHz, bus ratio=11

Will take a picture as soon as I got my camera back

Dense suggests: Try upgrading to 10.5.5? On AMD we use a custom dyld and it is the 10.5.5 version. You're on 10.5.2. That could be causing the incompatibility.

Or you could boot with patcher_opts=0 bootflag.

Tried the patcher_opts=0 flag... after detecting USB bus & devices, I have "AppleNForceATA: found 0 units." (which is normal) and my hdd halts!!

The thing is that i can't dl the latest leo4all iso via torrent because of a damn network firewall and it has not been posted on usenet yet ;)

Will backup & try to update via ASU.

Cheers & thanks a lot for your huge work folks ;)
