I paid a visit to the apple store in sydney today and had a very interesting chat with one of the apple genius at the genius bar. I was curious as to what it would take to actually work at the genius bar: Here's the gist of it:

Tried: So what does it take to work at the genius bar?
Genius: ~smirk~ all you need is this t-shirt
Tried: I guess you get that question quite often ~wipes off laugh~ seriously how did you get the job
Genius: Sometimes apple takes in people from outside, but more often than not, apple usually hires people internally. You may start off working in sales, and with exp and training, you apply for a position at the genius bar, go for the interviews, and if you're lucky, you get it.
Tried: How long did it take you to be a genius then?
Genius: I've been with apple for about a year now...
Tried: What do you need to know?
Genius: you need to know all things apple, old and new. Got to be familiar with first gen to latest gen products, software troubleshooting, know your way around new releases, look up knowledge base and so forth. Usually you'll meet people with tech backgrounds here at the genius bar.

Most of the people who work at the Genius bar were friendly and approachable so that you wouldn't feel too dumb to ask anything. Thats my experience at least.

For those who actually know more about the genius bar, or people who actually work there, please do post your experiences working for apple and what it takes for you to stand behind the bar... I'm sure i'm not the only one who wonders about that

PS: did you know the genius at the genius bar have their own business cards with a shiny silver apple on it!!

So basically all you need is a T-Shirt and to read a few manuals to become a glorified sales clerk. Amazing.

Reminds me my 1st geeky dream a few months ago. I came back from college and received a letter from Apple, who tells me I'm hired as an official Apple Genius in the Paris Apple Store (which isn't even 100% built yet). There was also a pack containing an Apple black T-shirt, an iphone and a Snow Leopard box ( lol).
Then, ... I woke up!
