The article in the link covers limitations of the the intel mini only. I think if you have a faster processor and lots of memory to compensate, you will get a very reasonable performance with FCS. FCS has been reported to work on the PPC Mac Minis but now the new "high speed" intel mac mini should have not enough graphics performance?? I can't imagine, that there are any technical reasons for it, because the ppc mini had an 32MB ati card without CI and QE. OK, maybe the mac mini has to less RAM if you don't upgrade your stock (tiny) 512MB, but performance-issues ?? Except Motion FCP 5 ran through Rosetta in VESA Mode and was usable. I think that it would be hard to top the performance of my 2x3,8 GHz Pentium D (stock - D930) with 2GB RAM @ 720Mhz with a 2Ghz dual core mac. I don't want to say that the 2,5 or 2,7 GHz dualcores will be topped too. Has someone tried to install it on GMA mactels with enough RAM? Is there any guide out there about how to install it on GMAs? Has anyone tried the old guide for intalling the PPC version under rosetta? If i had the software i would try it myself. So, if anyone have experience with some of these questions, please post! bigboss Posted April 6, 2006 Share Posted April 6, 2006 i can see how you might need more powerful graphics for motion but final cut, soundtrack and (maybe) dvd studio pro should also support the gma 950.. its just because apple wants you to buy their ridiculously overpriced underpeforming hardware.. for the same price as a dual dual core power mac g5, i can get myself a dual dual core opteron with quad sli and each core at 2.6ghz.. whos yo daddy now powermac and dont tell me that 4 opteron cores at 2.6ghz with 4 graphics chips and 16gigs of ram cannot beat the living guts out of a powermac g5.. no matter how high apple rates their hardware, its inferior to the stuff that pcs use.. it just looks nicer. ofcourse id like to see how the conroe core (or w/e core apple plans to use) performs before i say anything about the intel gen of powermacs... (or mac macs, tower macs, mac pros lol). after all, conroe has been said to beat an fx-60 but those tests were lovingly carried out by the folks at intel so.. With the release of the Intel Macs which run Windows the product the Apple community laught most about for the last 15 years! Apple degraded to be a usual commercial multimedia corporation. The last thing Apple forgot is to start selling their computers in supermarkets. About Final Cut: I think that FC, DVDStP4 and the rest without motion sould run on the gma, they don't need graphics performance. I don't need motion. Nonsense (months later) Apple computer are more powerful than ever , mainstream users should only be happier, and with windows support they can expand their market share. btw, all pro apps work PERFECTLY with gma950 video card, including motion, i have tested, now testing shake 4.1 btw G4s and G5s are now obsolete...
