Keyboard backlight and display issue.

Ok, so i installed this program to control the fans on windows side (xp) of my macbook pro. If this helps, stats are

Model Name: MacBook Pro

Model Identifier: MacBookPro4,1

Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo

Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz

Number Of Processors: 1

Total Number Of Cores: 2

L2 Cache: 3 MB

Memory: 2 GB

Bus Speed: 800 MHz

Boot ROM Version: MBP41.00C1.B00

SMC Version: 1.27f1

Serial Number: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Sudden Motion Sensor:

State: Enabled

So the problem is: I ran the program, switched up the fans, and accidently hit one of the keyboard backlight automatic detection things at the top. My keyboard flickered and i unchecked it again. Later that day i restarted in leopard and found that my keyboard says "Your keyboard cannot be identified." as soon as i logged on. Now whenever i am in leopard osx the sensors do the exact OPPOSITE of what they're supposed to do. In darkness the keyboard backlights dim, and the screen dims.. when the room is lit up, the lights turn on. How do i fix this? Is there a way to get everything back to normal? If there is any further information i can give that would help you help me, please feel free to tell me. Thanks in advance.

Your post sounds a quite a bit like a suspicion I had after installing inputremapper, but I wasn't fully aware of how the backlighting worked in various lighting conditions before, so I'm not sure if anything is actually wrong. I'm trying to find out if it's as simple as ...

keyboard backlighting gets brighter as ambient light decreases, starting from off with bright ambient light all the way to full brightness in a dark room

display brightness/backlighting gets brighter in similar fashion, except that in bright ambient light instead of being off, the display is at some minimum brightness.

... or ...

the brighter the ambient light, the brighter the display will get to avoid getting washed out by surrounding light (??), and the darker it gets, the darker the screen to avoid eye strain from stark contrasts.

As for the keyboard, I'm at least convinced something is effed up with the keyboard, because under no circumstances should the keyboard backlighting get brighter when I point the area around the iSight towards a lamp.

Unfortunately I can't actually find a resource anywhere that just breaks down how the lighting is supposed to change for both the screen and the keyboard as lighting changes, so it's difficult to say that there is something in fact wrong.
