How to license Maya in Leopard x86

Hi my friends

This is the solution that I found for running Maya 2008 on my ToH Leopard RC2

follow instructions and enjoy your maya :

1) First Install your Maya :(

2)Goto Network prefences / choose Ethernet / choose Advanced / goto Ethernet Tab and Copy the Ethernet ID

3) What you have now is an ID like this : 00:11:d8:0a:c4:17 (mine)

so you should convert it to normal Ethernet ID to do this only remove ::::: ! and it will be : 0011d80ac417

4)now you have your Ethernet ID ( like the ID that you gave from Flexlm utilities in windows) so goto windows and do licensing with aw.dat and awkeygen.dat ( you MUST do it in same Machine)

5) come back too Mac and open finder... Go to Go menu and then Goto Folder then type "/var/"

6) go inside flexlm folder and paste the Aw.dat which you have.

7) now download this file which is below in the end of post : IOnetworkingfamily.zip

***** Note that this IONetwokingFamily.kext is different . it's not what you saw in other posts...I found solution by replacing the file I found in gutaker reply( here :http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=69330&hl=Dlink+DWL) in the kext ********

8)copy and replace IONetworkingfamily.Kext in /system/library/extensions/

9)open terminal and type followings :

sudo -s

type your password

chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext

chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext

rm /system/library/Extensions.mkext

10)now just reboot and then enjoy your Maya :(

test this procedure and tell me results...it worked for me very well

First of all, kudos to the original poster!

Ok, to anyone who is wondering whether this process works on leopard 10.5.6 and with Maya 2009 unlimited : it does.

Now, you have to swap the existing IONetwokingFamily kext for the one attached above (use kext helper, your other favorite tool, or manually). Everything went ok for me, network showed up after reboot just fine (but really, backup the original kext, just in case).

After that, run "Autodesk product configuration wizard" and select "Show OPA hardware identifiers..". This should give you a list of hardware identifiers detected (without patching IONetwokingFamily this list is always empty).

Look at listed number carefuly: on my motherboard (evga x58, i7) I have two nics, default en0 (mac address ends with 3) and en1 (disabled, mac address ends with 2). For some reason this utility was only listing my disabled nic and it's address (so do not assume it would use the default en0 or whatever, double check).

After that run Maya and feed it your license key.

unfortunately it doesn't seem to work for me. I used kext helper and installed but when I rebooted my wireless card wasn't working, nor did autodesk's license helper see my MAC addresses I had either, just like before.

I noticed that there is a major difference in file size between the two kext files. My original one in around 3mb in size whereas the one above is around 1mb. What is the above file fixing?

Cheers.

I don't think it will work with wireless. Have to be a regular ethernet card. My wireless cards are not visible to autodesk product configurator either, even on macbook pro.

I think flexlm tries to get a primary network device through IOnetworkingfamily, but apparently the one that we have does not provide that. Hence have to use patched one. But don't quote me on that, that's just a guess.

I haven't found any problems with the patched kext yet, been using it for almost a month.

Hi!

I think I'm in a little too deep, here.

I tried the above to get Maya working, it didn't however and now my MBP Airport-card can't be found.

I backed-up the IONetworkingFamily.kext and when it didn't work i just moved it back and replaced the not working one in the Extensions-folder. And rebooted. This didn't work either so in Terminal i re-did the procedure from the tutorial above:

"sudo -s

type your password

chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext

chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext

rm /system/library/Extensions.mkext"

Rebooted again with no change. This didn't work either and now I really don't know what to. How do I restore my Airport-configuration?

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: When i rebooted again after having inserted MACOSX-disc 1 then regretting the re-install it worked again. Strange. Thanks anyway.

Hi, I'm having trouble with Mac address not found after I installed Leo Retail on my machine.

Details can be found here:

Original Post

I'm gonna try this kext. I'll tell you how it goes asap!

EDIT: didn't work and screwed up my network. Solved by installing the same driver from the iDeneb Distro.

Bye

Yes, this ideneb kext worked for me too, on 10.5.7 with Maya 2009. All other ionetworkingfamily.kexts didn't work for me.

Three days of searching the insanelymac forums and this humble little post is the answer.

If you're a n00b like me, don't forget to put it into your extras folder in chameleon, (or extentions folder in /Darwin if you're using Think-Boot ;-D)

Could someone please be so kind to post this kext for me? (or at least a link to it) because I have ideneb 5i but I can't seem to find the kext there.
