zeamp
I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 and myself, and others with similar models have reported kernel panics when going from 10.5.4 Kalyway to 10.5.5 via Software Update. There are a few tips and tricks, some success and some failures, but what is the clear cut method? I'd like any of you Kalyway users to post your success and how you did it on getting 10.5.5 to run without erroring, panicing, or beachball syndrome. Thanks in advance -- POST SCREENSHOTS OF SUCCESS/FAILURE!

mrmick
I successfully went from 10.5.3 to 10.5.4 to 10.5.5 incrementally using these files: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1054update.html http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1055update.html I did NOT use the 10.5.5 ComboUpdate from Apple. The kernel is 9.5. I started with Kalyway 10.5.1 and then did the 10.5.2/.3 Kalyway updates. As far as I can tell, everything still works.

GoBx
On P5W DH mobo. I started with Kalyway 10.5.1 vanilla kernel + EFI v8 Updated to 10.5.2, 10.5.3, 10.5.4 using netkas method (combo update + background script in terminal) I did the same thing with 10.5.5, but can't boot anymore (It seems it starts to boot, I hear the HD 2-3 seconds, then spinning wheel and finally HDs are turned off). Guess what ? I had to format my time machine HD this week end so I lose everything Boot with -v shows error message about JMicron I've tried rd=disk2s1, tried -s then fsck -fy A solution to make me boot again would be VERY appreciated

Updated from 10.5.2 to 10.5.3 with the Kalyway combo-updater - I had to install the kernel after updating. Have you done some post installations after updating to 10.5.4, like reinstalling kernel or so?
lbaz
I have an Asus P5W DH that was running kalyway 10.5.4. Downloaded the delta update 10.5.5 with the link provided in this post by mrmick and applied it with the netkas background script in terminal method. The only thing was no sound........erased the kexts for sound and reinstalled with ALC882 AppleHDA v0.4b.mpkg and everything is working perfect with Vanilla kernel. Jmicron is disabled in BIOS. I think its the way to go at least for this MB. Thanks all for the info in this thread it was very helpfull.

Colonel
This thread title is pretty misleading.. I thought this had something to do with a Kalyway 10.5.5 combo update package... you got my hopes up for a second there...

Panarchy
I will try the combo update later, with my ASUS P5K-E Motherboard. But before I do, has anyone tried it with the same motherboard as me?
zeamp
For anyone thinking "Hey! There's no Kalyway Combo Update here. What gives?" I successfully upgraded from 10.5.4 Kalyway to 10.5.5. You can find more information on my tutorial. Runs great! Check my signature for specs. lbaz
I will try the combo update later, with my ASUS P5K-E Motherboard. But before I do, has anyone tried it with the same motherboard as me? Use the Delta update link provided by mrmick and netkas method. Do not use software or combo update.
smcpipint
Upgraded using the Netkas method and the 10.5.5 delta upgrade, NOT the combi. No problems on an Asus Maximus Formula (X38/ICH9/JMicron), other than having to reinstall Taruga to get sound back. I did not use the combi as previous combi upgrades have trashed the AHCI kexts; the delta upgrade did not.
Coloro
Origin: Kalyway 10.5.2 -> Kalyway Combo Update 10.5.3 (vanilla kernel) -> Software Update's 10.5.4 update. Downloaded delta (not combo) 10.5.5 update. Started Netkas method on terminal (to recursively delete AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement file). Started update. Before completing, alarm! My screen turns grey and a message tells me to power off my PC or hard reboot it. Power on again, and my system gets blocked after a few lines of code on screen: power off again . One more power-on, and my PC suddenly autoreboots after a few lines of code on screen. Starts booting... grey Apple's screen... blue screen... my system is up and running! Now 'about this Mac' says my version is 10.5.5, and all (sound, graphics...) works as ever. I don't know what happened, I am even not sure if my system is really running 10.5.5, but I'm happy . If you installed from 10.5.4, did you update to 10.5.4 in the same way you describe above? Also can you get the Vanilla kernel to work with your X38 MF because I can't get past 10.5.3 on my system? How do you get the PC to boot with say a Vanilla kernel 9.4.0 or 9.5.0?
Mysticus C*
You guys can also (alternatively) try my BIKE TOWN FILES and TUTORIAL to update anything to 10.5.5 in three stages but at one go... a-) install preparation patch (no restart) b-) install official update (no terminal fingering needed but no restart yet) c-) post update patch (custom settings to bring back various files so that no need to worry about more fingering) (restart after this ) Here is my topic

ganzhimself
The first attempt took a dump all over itself after just trying to do it through software update... Well, I reinstalled, and restored from my Time Machine Backup... Tried again, this time using the Combo Update (10.5.2 -> 10.5.5)... I thought the install was messed up, because it never seemed to boot, so I redid the install again. I happened to bump my usb mouse and this time it came back, but no onboard mouse and keyboard... So, I have no idea. Flushed the install again and I'm back at 10.5.2 awaiting some guidance. Probably going to at least upgrade to the Kalyway 10.5.3 combo update, maybe 10.5.4 if I can find it... Ugh. Oh well, it's not like this doesn't work the way it is for now, and I'm sick of reinstalling. If anyone has any advice, that would be awesome. I can get to 10.5.3 via Kaly's combo update but I still can't use Vanilla Kernel or update past 10.5.3. I've gone nuts searching this forum for methods on getting a Vanilla Kernel to work..... there must be still something I'm missing..... Oh well I'll try one more time with the netkas method then I'll wait for Kaly to do a 10.5.5 update Just a quick question.... Are my update problems caused because I've used the Kaly 10.5.2 DVD for the initial install with sleepkernel 9.2.0 (this is the only kernel that works for me atm)?
