A working sb700 kext

Sorry this post is completely vague and poorly written, but I have to wake up early for class.

I attached working kexts for sata and fast pata support on sb700 based chipsets.

I've only tested these on one system.

Use at your own risk.

I used a method by dcat for the sb600. where he edited source for AppleOnboardPCATA.kext and compiled it with sb600 support. It seemed to also work for the sb700. Then I also added the the sb700 sata devid to IOATAFamily.kext. This was also a method dcat did for the sb600

A quick note on sb700 sata:

the sb700 has 4 devids for sata. I only added the first code, which is sata in ide mode, to IOATAFamily.kext. You're more then welcome to add the others, but i don't know if they'll work.

0x43901002, SATA in IDE mode - I added this code

0x43911002, SATA in AHCI mode

0x43921002, SATA in RAID mode with Promise non-Raid5 driver

0x43931002, SATA in RAID mode with Promise Raid5 driver

I'd like to thank dcat. without his findings on the sb600 south bridge none of this would have been possible.

You can try that guide. I'm not 100% sure if it'll work i didn't read it.

Yeah, with out these kexts your ide drive will read and write at 1.5 megs a second. which makes osx pretty useless. these kexts also give you sata support if your sata is in ide mode.

are you installing onto sata? or pata? if you're installing to sata you need to add the kexts to a dvd first.

Uhh i used zephs 10.5.1 to install onto pata after disabling sata all together have you tried disable sata from bios?

i've also installed the 10.5.4 phenom release after adding the the kexts i uploaded. before adding the kexts i'd get still waiting for root after it booted up normally. maybe you can give that a shot.

Thanks!

After I installed OS X on my sata drive (I used SB700 kext on install DVD), I connected one IDE and one external eSATA drive but they are not recognized.

The sata drive is set to AHCI mode and 4/5 ports are set to As SATA Type.

What kext do I have install to get fully working eSata and IDE drives?

Oh man thanks SenVa, this got my hackintosh flying, detected all drives, and i had an issue with an ide hdd where some folders on the ntfs file system were detected as alias files and would not open. Now they open fine and my boot time went from about 5 minutes to under 1 minute :) thanks again so much!!!!!!!!!

Hi SenVa,

Thanks so much for the kext, it was the only one out of all of them that I tried that got my hackintosh to recognize my PATA / ATAPI DVD-ROM drive. Cool.

I have a question for you. Do you think it will recognize my SATA? This is what I have:

iDeneb 1.3 Leopard 10.5.5 on an ASUS Pundit-R (that I had laying around in storage)

Intel Celeron 2ghz Processor

Motherboard Asus P48RL

Northbridge ID5833

Southbridge ATI SB200

Maxtor 300gb SATA HD

Memorex 16 speed DVD-ROM

512M memory PCI3200

On board IDE is 0x43491002.

After running CPUz, I didn't see any devices for SATA, even though it has a SATA connection and there is SATA in the Bios. Also, there is no AHCI in the Bios. This leads me to believe that it could be some kind of hybrid or SATA running over PATA or equally strange configuration. The machine is interesting in other ways too. While it has 1 SATA connection and 2 PATA connections, the PATA's are both for the primary - one being master and the other being Slave. Even installing XP on it when I first got it was a pain because I had to try different configs between the SATA and 2 primary PATA connections. With Leopard it was even a bigger pain because it wouldn't recognize my SATA drive at all so I had to install on a PATA drive and then dd the contents over to a SATA drive on an external USB enclosure. The SATA drive is still in the enclosure because it had never been able to be recognized by OSX. It can boot from USB (Thankfully). Also, interestingly, DiskUtility cannot format or partition a drive that is on USB - not sure why, but it is not my problem at the moment. I would like to have my machine run Leopard from the SATA connection within the box.

So in your professional opinion, will your kext work with my SATA drive as the boot drive? That would be really sweet. I do plan to try it and will post back up the results, but as you say, it's late.

If you need any other information, just let me know. Thanks!

- George

Hhmmm old thread, but no one answers questions anyways. So here goes... Would this work on SB750? Also how would you edit it to work on a usb thumb drive. I use to get ACPI errors copied this over, and they're gone. It will freeze when seeing the usb root though. Thanks for the kext.
