I messed my Kalyway, and am now trying to update to 10.5.5 from 10.5.2 trough the combo update. I'm using an ASUS P5k, JMicron, after updating to 10.5.5 i can't boot, something about the devicetree.

What's weird is that i can boot into safe mode. Any ideas?

I believe it's caused by the SATA drivers - at least it did for me. I had to replace my kexts to the ones I used under 10.5.4

Update went perfectly well using the combo updater and Netkas' method on a GA-G31M-S2L w/ 8600GTS (using EFI strings). I did not have to replace any kexts though the only third party I am using is for audio, which I plan to eliminate using EFI as well. Big thanks to Netkas!

I messed up my vanilla 10.5.4 install twice until I figured I had to use the 300MB install and not the big 600MB combo.

Time Machine full restore saved me twice.

All is good now except I'm still having the issue with slow boot cause of external bus powered Firewire audio device (security issue it seems) and my audio seems to have spikes which causes the audio to drop out now. I did have the spikes but not the dropouts so either its the update or the TM restore.

Good luck to all and I suggest you use the 300mb delta with vanilla install.

I tried installing the delta on my quad core from jas 10.5.4... didn't go so hot. I rebooted and it just froze at "MAC framework successfully loaded"...

I should probably just reinstall with boot-132 and the leopard retail disk instead of using an OSx86 DVD...

I did updated to 10.5.5(voodoo9.5 ALPHA_7 kernel) from iDeneb 10.5.4.(modbin kernel).

1; remove

  AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext; done

2; reboot another device

and edit the /System/InstallAtStartup/scripts/1 file

(*I cant open InstallAtStartup holder! when i open it,it closed suddenly!)

installe voodoo9.5 ALPHA_7 kernel (using pcwiz's Kernel Installer)

(In my case ,I cant boot from original kernel)

3; reboot from installed device (-v -f update)

and check the bad kekts(if you cant boot).

( *in my case , needed appleAHCI.kekt,USBOHCI.kekt )

4;rebooted. everything worked fine,.

Just noticed this, 10.5.5 is out on Software Update!

now the question is, is it safe to update from 10.5.4 to 10.5.5 through software update?

No problem(10.5.5)...in my case!

I can update to 10.5.8 from 10.5.4( but you need some fixes to 10.5.8 from 10.5.6).

Dont worry so easy .
