EFI parition is a way to run OSX original on a pc Becouse all the kext you need are in efi partition so you can update via software update and it's like running a real mac and then i think if we efi string the 9600 we can get qe/ci

Any how I could get my 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: ATI Technologies Inc RV350 [Mobility Radeon 9600 M10] [1002:4e50] fully supported ?

I'm on ideneb v1.3 10.5.5 on my Dell Inspiron i9100 (sold as XPS in the States).

Xnu kernel (no vanilla as my processor is SSE2 ).

The VESA only allows for 1600x1200x32 resolution, where my card/screen support 1920x1200x32.

Any help appreciated.

Been lurking/searching around for quiet some time, but I didn't find a solution yet.

From what I understood, only PPC drivers are available for that card in the most recent releases (>10.5.2) ?

well first hi everyone :-)

I'm also trying to install on a nc6000. i've tried several versions before, but the best results i got was instant and infinite rebooting after the installation finished. now I#m trying the nice step by step-howto from page 2 with ideneb 1.3.

i think it would be extra super nice if someone who got it working would post real step-by step and the exackt osx86 version he used to install it on the nc 6000 :-)

well

we'll see how far I'll get this time.

so long

it isn't supported in Leopard but when you do a fresh install it should be recongized

Not sure what you mean by "fresh install", but I installed iDeneb v1.3 10.5.5 from scratch if this is what you mean, and my card is NOT recognized.

Also, what do you imply by "not supported" but "recognized" ?

Should I be able to achieve full resolution or not ?

And if yes, how ? :)

Any help welcome as I'm still new to this world :)

Hi Guys

My post - I've been lurking for a while and have been trying for some time to get OSX up and running on non-Apple hardware for some time (although I have two Macs at home so it's more for fun than necessity - and a desire to avoid Windows of course).

Most recently I have been tinkering with an NC6000 and couldn't get any of the other main installers to work, but thanks to this thread got the Jas 10.5.4 installed very quickly.

However, a note of caution - when trying to get the laptop keyboard and trackpad working I ran across an installer that claims to do the job without any expert intervention. For most users it does indeed seem to work well but for Jas 10.5.4 it kills the installation causing a kernel panic on boot. It's in this thread here - AVOID!!!

Hi All

After a few days I now have a 99% functional HP NC6000

I basically followed the instructions in this thread but had a lot of problems with the WiFi - it showed up OK but as soon as I tried to connect to my router I would get a kernel panic.

The mistake I was making was that I didn't bother installing the Broadcom etherner, I had tried editing the /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist file but it made no difference. Days of forum reading and swapping all kinds of kext versions mostly ended up having to do a re-installation due to kernel panic at boot. Installing the ethernet solved the WiFi as well, I'm not sure exactly why as the Atheros is on en0 and Broadcom en1, but it works.

I haven't done anything special with the graphics - it's on default (whatever that is) with a little bit of mouse-tearing, but that's OK for the moment, I can play in future. The worst thing is that I haven't got the ALT-GR key functional and that means I can't get an "at" sign (Belgian keyboard you see), this will need fixing.

I have a "bog standard" NC6000 with a built-in Atheros XG5001X+

The correct route for me:

Install using JaS 10.5.4 - in fact I used the Rapidshare link above (thanks Nick14) as the torrent was too slow. I had previously tried Kalyway and IPC with no success at all.

Use the installation options mentioned in the OP: Stage XNU, AC97, Atheros, ICH PIIX

Takes about 20 minutes to get to the installation language choice, then about 70 minutes to the video and setup. First boot then take about 20 minutes because the cardbus drivers are missing.

Of course you need a USB keyboard and mouse for the first time.

Several kexts need to be installed - you can do these all in one shot then reboot at the end

Firstly install the OSX86 Tools - you can use this to install kexts and fix permissions avoiding a lot of terminal work: http://######.com/osx86tools/

Install the Cardbus kext (thanks chun nan), this will drop your boot time from 20 minutes to about 30 seconds: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?n1zjmmyzzmn

Install the Apple PS2 kext (again thanks chun nan), this will get the laptop keyboard and trackpad up and running: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?znmtzq0jytu

Finally install the Broadcom kext: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?act...st&id=33777

Then reboot, all should work...

What I did not have to change was the Atheros, AC97 or keyboard/mouse kexts, these worked out of the box

I'm no expert, I've only followed the hard work of the real brains in this and other threads, but I'll be glad to help anyone else if I can.

And yes, this post was written wirelessly on the nc6000 in Leopard 10.5.4 :D

Really thanks to YOU!

Dave

Indeed, graphics next to play with.

Strangely this morning I got a kernel panic on boot - might be because I had a USB drive plugged in, removed that and rebooted, still panicked, tried again with -f -v and it's fine.

However, I'm feeling emboldened enough to try on my work Dell D830 - substantially more performant if I can get that working and, like the nc6000, it has a swappable hard disk so other than messing with the BIOS they have no idea :)

qe/ci for leopard

9a32:

http://rs322.rapidshare.com/files/10780419...1_ATI_KEXTs.zip

Graphics are indeed accelerated, scrolling is very smooth and so is moving dragging windows across the screen. However a few things don't work:

videos :: the movie plays but picture is all white

preview :: all white and crashes. BUT, it works if I open images with taskbar

coverflow :: simply not working

Here is how I did it:

Optional in case you messed up with your extensions

- Downloaded Update 10.5.1 Intel from Apple

- Extracted ATI* kexts from it and re-installed them with Kext Helper b7 (to 'clear' any previous attempts, messed files)

Main STEP

1) Downloaded Update 10.4.8 Intel from Apple and extracted the following kexts with Pacifist:

- ATIRadeon9700.kext

- ATIRadeon9700DVDDriver.bundle

- ATIRadeon9700GA.plugin

- ATIRadeon9700VADriver.bundle

- ATIRadeonGA.plugin

- ATIRadeonGLDriver.bundle

2) Install Callisto b003 edited with dev_id 4e50

3) Patched ATIRadeon9700GA.plugin and - ATIRadeonGA.plugin (IONDVRFrameBuffer -> CallistoFB)

Even more important STEP !!!

4) Installed - ATIRadeon9700GLDriver.bundle (build 9a321) patched with ATIRadeonx1000GLDriver.bundle from 10.5.1 (this method was mentioned in many other forums). Here is what you have to do:

a) download this

;) extract ATIRadeon9700GLDriver.bundle

c) Navigate into ATIRadeonx1000GLDriver.bundle from 10.5.1 into Contents/MacOS, copy ATIRadeonx1000GL.driver onto your desktop, rename it to ATIRadeon9700GLDriver

d) navigate into ATIRadeon9700GLDriver bundle build 9a321 (the one obtained in :D to Contents/MacOS and drag ATIRadeon9700GLDriver (the one you got in c) so as to replace existing one.

e) install kext, repair permissions

8) Reboot

Note: Do this without AGPGart.

Hi Nick

Thanks for the info, but it's rather arcane - there's a RapidShare download of stuff, what exactly to do with this? I tried installing various kexts but ended up with a hanged installation every time.

Is it possible to be more precise (read "obvious to thickies like me"?)

Cheers

Dave

P.S. I gave up with the Dell - really weird, first try with IPC 10.5.6 was not to bad, following that I just got kernel panics...

Hello All,

I tried installing with JaS 10.5.4 only checking Stage XNU, AC97, Atheros, and ICH PIIX and everything went fine, however i cant seem to get the wifi to work. I used Kext Helper B7 to install additional kexts per OP and ethernet is working but WIFI is not. Also everytime I reboot I am forced to enter -v -f or else it will sit there for 45 mins or so before I get tired and reboot the machine. Here Is System Log Report any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm also forced to use -f on boot or I get a kernel panic...

I switched speedstep on in the BIOS and it didn't crash

For you WiFi, in what way isn't it working? Do you see the indicator in the top left? Are you able to switch the WiFi on? Do you see networks etc?

OK, I "solved" the WiFi problem - it was the power saver that was putting it into slepp mode after 20 minutes. Of course the sleep is one thing that isn't working yet so it wasn't obvious.

Advice to others - switch off the disk sleep mode as well...
