If I screw up and have to reinstall XP, will the product key still work?

Ok, so I'm really close to throwing down money for a new MacBook and copy of XP so I have a few questions.

1. Will I be able to upgrade OSX down the line without losing everything by reformatting/making partitions/reinstalling?

2. If something gets screwed up after installing XP and I need to reinstall, does the product key still work? I always thought that you could only install XP on one computer ONCE. I'd hate to have to pay for another key.

Thanks.

Small OSX updates, like going from the current 10.4.5 to 10.4.6 should not be an issue. An upgrade to a major new version, like going to 10.5, will probably overwrite the patched EFI and boot loader stuff, so you would need to redo those steps, redo the bless command, etc. Should not be a big deal. Of course, this is trying to predict the future, and we never really know what Apple will throw at the picture until they do it.
