depends on what you are engraving to. its actually really easy using household items (i.e. McGuyvering it).

first off heres some items you will need- an image, a printer, clear tape, an exacto knife, and some sandpaper or your favorite scratchy product.

-print out what you what to be engraved then go and grab some transparent tape of some sort, just make sure its pretty durable and thick, clear packaging tape works well, and start applying it to your print out.

-now at this point you should have you image witha bunch of tape on it, make it uniform and nice so it looks like its laminated.

-Now use the exacto knife to cut out what what you want etched onto your object, leaving everything you want unetched on your taped page.

-now use more tape to put it on what you want etched: plastic or metal dosent matter. make sure its fixed securely and dosent move out of place cause you will be using some sort of abrasive(sandpaper, wool pad, scotchbrite pad) to "etch" your image on your object.

-once all secure use some sort of abrasive on it to "etch" it. it all depends on your liking to how hard or soft you do it to attain the desired effect.

hope this helps abit.
