Well I told my parents that I need a new computer soon because my iBook and P4 are getting tired, both have served well. I have one of two options, build the rig in my sig, or wait until August 2009 to get a Mac Pro [not funded by me] with dual cinema displays. I don't know what to do. I have money for the hack, well, some of it, but, my parents said one or the other, so what do I do? Do I build a hack, or tough it out until August? It's hard to pick! Maybe I should use the money for the hack to buy some upgrades for both the laptop and the desktop. Give me an opinion :)

Really difficult. Waiting can be hard, but in August 2009 the Mac Pro should fly, with 2 (Quad?) Nehalems, DDR3 RAM, hopefully a better graphics card, and who knows what else.

Maybe upgrading the laptop and the desktop you have now could be the better option.

I would say definetily, leave on the corner of the table your hack's project and wait til August 09 for a Mac Pro. Laptop getting better, but for now, as far as I know, Intel Atom is released but we still waiting on the supposed "Core 2 Quad" for laptops, the DDR3 (in PC, DDR2 is so cheap I can bought 4 gb for 100$ max) and for the releasing the price will not be affordable. Anyway, in your shoes, I will stay conservative and say to myself "Well, I can wait til august next year and had an amazing Apple that's nobody in the average can have!" hahaha.

Now, it's yours! :)

BTW MoC, I had the chance to repair a lot of Apple (like Mac Pro, Mac Book, MB Pro etc.) and I know what I'm talking about. These computers are build on solid base (either cheap like PSU I know...) but it still very powerful. I considered Apple computer like the 8th Wonders of the World :D. One day, I will sold my hole bunch of PC and I take myself into a AppleStore! Woot woot

Would you know where to find iBook parts then?

Spare parts (coming from Apple) or for some case, jobber parts. You can find some on eBay for sure, or just take a tour to a wreck (like recycle factory). Out of the "Apple" store, it's pretty difficult to find manifacturers part.

Yeah I need a new Keyboard, Mouse, and HDD and really don't know where to find parts for my Mid 2005 model because they usually sell for the previous generation which has harder keyboards. My idiot friend broke my G key. <_<

So are you saying get it repaired or get a new USB keyboard? I mean to get those new parts you probably wouldn't get it from Apple, but I guess you could go to the NY Apple Store and ask them and they could probably point you in the right direction. Other World Computing has very good RAM deals btw.

Going through choices a bit fast? First MacBook, then MacBook Pro, then Hackintosh, then a Mac Pro <_>

I dunno, I mean it depends on how your Mac Pro is gonna be customized. If its just a low end model with like 2gb ram and a 7300gt then its probably just better to build the hack, but say you get a Mac Pro with 8 Gigs of RAM, a 8800/9800/Quadro series card, and dual Nehalems well then the choice is clear isn't it?

Your friend type too much time G-string on google. It's the reason why you G is wreck hahaha kidding ;)

Better to take one at the recycle factory for 10$ or 20$. If you go to an Apple store, they will say "ok fine but we are the only one we had replacement parts. brought us the iBook for a evaluation =$ and after, we'll replaced your KB =$$$...
