Try using the com.apple.Boot.plist I have attached to this post you may want to edit the file to remove the -v in the kernel flags section that causes the system to always boot in text mode off the start and delete the timeout line and the one below which make the system wait 5 seconds before booting.

To install use the following commands in the Terminal application it is in the Applications -> Utilities folder.

 sudo cp ~/Downloads/com.apple.Boot.plist /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/
sudo chown 0:0 /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist
sudo chmod 755 /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist
sudo rm -r /System/Library/Extensions/Caches
sudo rm -r /System/Library/Extensions.mkext
sudo rm -r /System/Library/Caches

You need to enter the password you set on install when you enter the first line. Now you need to remove the NVinject the line below I think will get rid of it.

 sudo rm -r /System/Library/Extensions/NVi*

You may want to do ls -l /System/Library/Extensions/NVi* before issuing the above command just to make sure that is all that gets removed.

When you reboot after doing this then you will need to if you did remove the timeout hit the F8 key to get the boot menu then use the hit any key option to get to the boot prompt where you type in then hit ENTER key -v -f to force the reload/rebuilding of the kernel extension/caches where hopefully it works. If you machine has a different bus routing than mine for the PCI-e slot then you will have to go to http://forum.netkas.org/index.php and get the gfxutil to determine the bus numbers needed if this is the case post back.

i was thinking about getting an 8800 also...

so removing all the old NVinject stuff and reinstalling it with NVkush or a newer NVinject wont work? i'm on 10.5.4

Haven't a clue I don't use them if you can get it to work with the EFI string method then that is the best way it should continue to work no matter what.

Edit: I should add all those .kext's do is pass an EFI string on boot anyways so you are essentially doing the same thing using a string contained in the com.apple.Boot.plist and by all means if you don't want to use this method then try a newer installer to see if they will work for you.

I have installed my 8800GT and CI and QE are both supported. However, I am still using the kexts found at http://scottdangel.com/blog/?p=15. I am looking for a method to using the kexts Apple makes since this is the same card they use but so far no luck. (I don't want to have to change these kexts with every update.)
