oliver Posted March 16, 2006 Share Posted March 16, 2006 Hi m8s, I have a PowerBook Mac OS X 10.2.8 867MHZ G4 256MB PC133 40GB 32MB DDR SDRAM video DVD-ROM/CD-RW The question is, my DVD-ROM/CD-RW is not working, so Is there any way to install the TIGER without boot the machine? or Can I use a external DVD? or Can I use a Network startup using my osx86? I don't have an genuine Mac, so I used my OSX86 with Mac 10.4.4 OSX86 Pached DVD. The result is my PowerBook does not work. Therefore I bought an USB 2.0 TO IDE/ATAPI CABLE in order that I can use my DVD ROM as an external DVD. The problem is it does work at all. editopen Posted March 20, 2006 Share Posted March 20, 2006 If you want to run OS X Tiger on your PowerBook then you need a real PPC copy of the operating system. If your drive isn't working then you need to boot a Mac into FirewireTargetMode with the install disc inside it - you do this by booting up and holding down the letter 'T'. Your powerbook should then boot into the installer as it treats your other Mac (with the disc inside) as an external DVD drive. I'm not sure what you mean in the above post - did you try to install the OSX86 install onto your Powerbook?? That won't work. If your Powerbook won't boot into an OS now, you need to install an OS via external drive as i've explained above. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
macgirl Posted March 20, 2006 Share Posted March 20, 2006 10.4.1 and 10.4.3 can be installed in PPC Macs. I think the better way is to install with a Genuine Mac because if you install with a PC the partition/booting scheme is different. So if you don't have another PPC Mac the better way is to bott directly from 10.4.1 DVD, then make the Software Update isntall all the necessary up to date. The thing about the patched 10.4.4 DVD is that it install some other things linke kernel stripped to x86 only among other things, like I said different boot scheme.
