Will copying that kext fix sound functionality with the SigmaTel STAC9200 in Dell I9400 laptops by any chance?

Devilhood,

I tried yesterday to fix the 9200 issue replacing my 10.4.5 kext with 10.4.3 kext, i got the same laptop as you, this is a NOT WORKING SOLUTION, this guy is trying to make a driver.

Extract the zip and copy the folder onto the extensions folder and replace the existing AppleHDA.kext.

Then open terminal and run the following:

sudo chmod –R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext

and

sudo chown –R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext

Now open Disk Editor and repair permissions then reboot.

Should work out of one of the audio sockets. Try them all. With me it works out of the front headphone sockets.

AppleHDA.zip (There are many AppleHDA.kext that I’ve found. This one worked for me)

I can't remember which of the two kext I put up it is but it's worked everytime and I have a SigmaTel STAC9220.

You're looking for the 9200 which is different. And for that I don't believe there is a solution yet. The link above by thefabulous9mm is the place to explore that.

How are you supposed to know which one you have? I have been reading for hours and I can't find a simple breakdown of what hardware ID corresponds to the 9200 and the 9220. My hardware ID is 7690; to which does that correspond?

Great question! Something that took me a while to figure out and still does everytime I forget.

I used the free version of Everest in my Windows partition. There may be another way to do the same in OSX. Alternative download mirrors.

Open Everest

Expand "Motherboard" branch in menu

Select "Chipset"

Select 'South Bridge"

Type listed under "High Defination Audio: Codec Name"

Mine says "SigmaTel STAC9220 A1", so it's 9220. Remember 9200 still has no solution (as far as I'm aware).

Hi All, some success with the Dell Inspiron E1405! Thank you Taruga!!!

It has an integrated sound card, dev ID 7690. the psykopat link has "codec_Sigma9220.txt". edited third line:

from: Vendor Id: 0x83847680

to: Vendor Id: 0x83847690

Not even sure if that was required, but a match to the actual device ID seemed likely to be appropriate. Used AppleHDApatcher 1.15. rebooted, works like a charm on output, have to try input yet.

10.4.8 jas update

These are someone else's notes I followed. And it always seems to work.

For the Sigmatel audio using 10.4.5 extract the AppleHDA.kext from the attached zip file and place it in your extensions folder and then open terminal and run the following:

sudo chmod –R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext

and

sudo chown –R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext

Now open Disk Editor and repair permisions then reboot...

Reply with your Sigmatel 922X part number if it works. Also if audio in and out both work.

Good luck!

I use the attached kext. Not sure if it's the same as the one I've posted above. Then I use Tarugas AppleHDA Patcher to get my 5.1 sound working.

If none of that works then you can try the sigmatel9220.pkg from Tarugas wiki site.
