Hi

I have exhausted all the possibilities that I know in order to make this card work (Stock ATI published X1900XTX id: 0x7249) but I have only managed to get it working once (using the method detailed below) on a previous installation on the same pc.

Hardware:

A8N SLI Deluxe (everything onboard works including sound; havent tested firewire though) + AMD FX-60 Dual Core Processor

Netgear WPN311 Wifi (works)

IDE HDD Western Digital - 160GB (Install Location)

SATA HDD Western Digital - 200GB

ATI X1900XTX - PCI E - 512 MB connected via VGA using a DVI to VGA adapter (card only has DVI outputs)

USB Keyboard+Mouse from Logitech + other USB devices (Wacom tablet/Mass Storage Device) all work

HP w2408h monitor - 1920x1200 widescreen

The driver kexts I am using are the ones from the leopard graphics update - and these are the ones that worked before. I have removed everything besides the ATI kexts (i.e. all intel/nvidia have been removed)

If I have no Natit/Inject present, I can boot with the vesa driver with no problems, getting a max resolution of 1600x1200x32 by editing com.apple.Boot.plist + QE/CI hardware accelleration - but no ability to change resolution. I also experience graphical glitches after animations have completed and reproducibly after scrolling in a text document/web page etc. The glitches follow the cursor. System profiler reports the QE/CI support, but reports incorrectly for everything else:

Display:

Type: Display

Bus: PCIe

PCIe Lane Width: x16

VRAM (Total): 256 MB

Vendor: ATI (0x1002)

Device ID: 0x7249

Revision ID: 0x0000

Display:

Resolution: 1600 x 1200

Depth: 32-bit Color

Core Image: Hardware Accelerated

Main Display: Yes

Mirror: Off

Online: Yes

Quartz Extreme: Supported

I have tried using JCCool's packages (both the X1900 and X1950 packages) - the modifications to com.apple.Boot.plist in both packages dont seem to do anything on their own. If a Natit/Inject is present, then system profiler reports the incorrect information (as opposed to using a Natit on its own) and CI/QE are both reported as not-supported. The exception to this is the string included with the X1950 package, which seems to make no difference whatsoever - so QE/CI are shown as supported if the right natit is in place, and not supported if the wrong one is.

The method I'm using to install OS X and the results im getting (with every step included - just in case):

1) Install Kalyway 10.5.2 - customize with adding X1900 series Natit + AMD Patch #1 + 3rd party software - nothing else

2) Disable Bios USB legacy

3) Boot into first boot - get blue screen with cursor

4) boot using -s, move all video drivers out - can now boot to vesa driver with no hardware accelleration + glitches (as expected)

5) install IO80211Family.kext form 10.4.8 update, and edit plist to get wifi working - reboot

6) install leopard graphics update kexts using pacifist. I select all frameworks etc. + the ATI Radeon kexts.

7) can now boot using vesa driver - see above for status

8) Restore Natit.kext that came with Kalyway DVD to get system profiler to report correct information + QE/CI still supported, but no resolution change and graphical glitches - any other kext (from these forums or elsewhere) results in the incorrect information presented in System profiler.

This is where I end up, with system profiler reporting:

Chipset Model: ATI Radeon X1900 Series

It seems like Im still running the vesa driver (same glitches, X11 doesnt work - tested with glxgears etc.) but with full hardware accelleration - 3D works blindingly fast and the coverflow view works in finder. Since my monitor's default resolution is 1920x1200 the display looks extremely ugly.

I have been able to get this card working before using the *exact* method as detailed above - yet on this installation (my third one - installed after ruining the last one trying to find a fix for a problem i use to have with USB) I cant seem to make any progress. One difference ive noted is that on the previous installation both the Natit from Kalyway's DVD and the latest Natit (the Edited Natit for ATI (not the auto) on these forums worked perfectly fine. Now however the same edited Natit I used before simply takes me to a blue screen forcing a hard reset - but the kalyway natit doesnt. Just about every Natit out there besides the Kalyway Natit ends in a blue screen after booting - and I've noticed that the shade of blue is much lighter then it is when the vesa driver is loaded. This and the fact that the resolution is 1920x1200 when these blue screens occur lead me to believe that the Radeon kexts are being loaded - but something is going wrong (I dont know enough about OS X to be sure though)

Can anyone recommend what I should do to get OSX to load up the Radeon kexts correctly - i.e. so that I can change my resolution and have no graphical glitches? (+ with X11 working - I need that specifically)
