ATI 3850/3870! QuartzExtreme ON makes WHITEMENUE !

Hi,

today i started to investigate whats going wrong with the ATI3850/3870 and maybe others having whitemenü problem.

I have an ATI 3850, 9505/1002 (MSI 3850)

 

i got QE/CI working and Menü working, but for the price of using OLD (1.5.24) ATIRadeon2000.kext and ATIRadeon2000GL.kext.

I reinstalled orig., unmodiefid ATIRadeon2000 drivers (out of 10.5.4 Combo orig. Apple).

So all of ATIRadeon 2000 are now orig. Version 1.5.28 (not 1.5.24 as before)

In the newest .plists also my card (9505/1002) is listed, so i dont need to modify anyting there.

 

Then i used the Triakis_2400_2600_2900_3800 package, it has natit and ATINVDRV plugin kext . (See screenshoot)

 

All working(QE/CI) - execpt white menü problem.

 

Then i used Quartz debug, an Xode Tool which allows to check, switch QuartzExtreme and QuartzOpenGL on the fly ON and OFF.

whitemenü problem GONE (immediatly, no reboot) if i switch QE OFF .

QuartzOpenGL didnt matter, works ON/OFF.

See the differnce of the screenshoots with systemprofiler QE=OFF(Nicht unterstützt, german) MenüOK, QE:ON (Unterstützt, german) MenüWHITE!

 

And one other thing i got :

Using OpenGL Extensions Viewer / Info i see some wrong Information:

ATI RV670 ..... , i think with 1.5.24 it was ATI 3870

(see screenshoots OpenGLViewer). Both means the same (3850/70=RV670) but may help to get the difference fixed.

 

Render ID with old drivers: 137732dez/x021a04, i forgot to look for ID of new drivers, but i remember they where shown (in OpenGLView / Pixelformats) different.

Perhaps this information may help also to get the whitemenü problem fixed (with orig. drivers), only added some natit or gfxstr things.

 

So i hope someone can , with that new information (Quartz is the Problem) give hints for:

checking some quartz frameworks, natit modding, gfxstrings other injections WITHOUT using old (1.5.24)OpenGL drivers.

So, next step:

 

I injected device-id of 9501 (is 3870) insted of my 9505 (3850) with natit by adding deviceId item.

 

With newest (1.5.28) drivers no changes (QE works, CI works, but whitemenu)

 

So flashing bios to mod deviceid of gpu will not help - some drivers may read the id direct from hardware, but i think flashing will not work AND make at least troubles with window ati drivers.

 

Without changing code in the ATIRadeon2000 (1.5.28) Or injecting something missing (an real ioreg -l output of an PC/MAC 3870 would be fine).
