starobrno1 Posted July 30, 2008 Share Posted July 30, 2008 I took a chance and bought this card cause I needed a better card for Final Cut express and after a bit of frustration I managed to make it work. All I did was extracting (using pacifist) the 512 mb Nvinject.kext from Mysticus Cs 10.5.3 package deleted the old Nvinject.kext installed the new using kexthelper cleared chaches in the system/library/extensions folder rebooted and that´s it. The fan´s way to loud though so there just have to be a better kext out there for this card so if anybody have a tip how to silence this card please post here. starobrno1 Posted July 31, 2008 Author Share Posted July 31, 2008 If you use this info/program and go for the 8800 GT if you have the same card (GA 9800 GT 512 mb) as I do you can delete the NVinject.kext I was reffering to. The fan´s still making noice though but it probably would in a PC to. http://forum.netkas.org/index.php/topic,64.60.html Seems you even can use the 8800GTS to from the EFIstudio for this 9800GT card, dunno if it increases performance though but I´ll try to find out as soons as I can. Oh yes seems the 8800GTS speeds things up pretty good actually so if anybody could jump in here with some tips on how to make the fan not blowing full speed all the time it would be great. starobrno1 Posted July 31, 2008 Author Share Posted July 31, 2008 Well they said so in the shop to but it seems it runs better with the 9800 GTS stuff from EFIStudio so there´s got to be some new stuff going on in there. I have no NVinject.kext in my extensions folder no more and since the 8800 is one of the "real" mac cards it hopefully means I´m on the right track besides the noice from it´s fan. But I can live with that and if I want record some music I can allways put back my silent 7300 gs. Or you maby have some tips for how to controll the fan cause that was what I was asking for, what you said well as I said before they already told me when I bougt it. starobrno1 Posted August 2, 2008 Author Share Posted August 2, 2008 For some reason it seems shutdown started to work after I installed the 9800 GT using EFIStudio, maby I´m even closer to a clean Retail Leo 10.5.4 install cause I have no video kexts no more? Strangest thing is my backup Kalys Leo 10.5.1 gives me the grey "You have to restart your computer" screen on bootup though. Really strange cause they both had the same NVinject.kext before and the Retail Leo 10.5.4 booted right up no problems at all whit the 9800 GT. VooD Posted September 9, 2008 Share Posted September 9, 2008 Well, I bought a BFG 9800GT, and the fan control was working properly. The only problem was, even at lowest setting the fan had a high frequency noise extremely annoying (at least for me), so I returned the card. Apart from that, the cardwas using 8600GTS engine instead of 8800GT engine (since this one is almost the same card), and also OpenGL Extension Viewer Pixel Shader 2.1 failed to show the zooming fractal texture. About the Gigagbyte's ones I'm not sure, but I think it may be they have a non regulable fan. Probably the fan has just 2 cables. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
