This guide will help most Acer laptop users get working Marvell Yukon 88E8038.

1. Install OS X Tiger or Leopard (I know for a fact it works on Leopard. No idea on Tiger but it should()

2. Download whatever one applies to you

Leopard http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?act...st&id=22362

Tiger http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?act...st&id=22363

3. Install it with kext helper or do it manually and then repair permissions. Don't reboot yet

4. Go to /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/Plugins/AppleYukon2.kext/Contents

5. Drag the Info.plist to your desktop

6. Open it and find this text (without quotes) "88E8053"

7. Change <key>Yukon-88E8053</key> to <key>Yukon-88E8038</key>

8. Change <string>0x435611ab</string> to <string>0x435211ab</string>

9. Change <string>Yukon Gigabit Adapter 88E8053 Singleport Copper SA</string> to <string>Yukon Gigabit Adapter 88E8038 Singleport Copper SA</string>

10 Repair permissions (if you did it before then sorry you have to do it again. If you didn't then gratz. You could also replace the IONetworkingFamily kext by reinstalling it with Kext Helper)

11. Enjoy ethernet

There is another topic on this but I made this to simply things <_<

a simpler method is to download the package i uploaded in this post. unzip it, run Kext Helper, drag the 2 kext's into Kext Helper, type your password and hit Install. restart your computer and you'll have 100% working ethernet. (provided you have a 88E8038 ethernet adapter). if you need sound working and have an ACL883 sound card, go here: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=904481

I just followed the original poster's guide with ipc's 10.5.6...well I followed it in spirit at least. I edited Info.plist directly with nano in the terminal as root, saved the file, typed 'kextload AppleYukon2' and immediately came online.

I did exactly as this but I got a "Still waiting for root device" startup screen because the AppleACPIPCI.kext... Impossible to fix, I re-installed everything. I´m using the iAtikos 10.5.7... I really don´t know if the problem is the beta AppleACPI, but if you wanna try this, backup everything... And good luck...

ACER Aspire 5580 (cpus=1 still necessary icon2.gif) and WiFi not working (Intel 3945 ABG). All the rest ok..! Valeu pessoal..!

well you know you could of just logged in as -s and remove the kext to get back into the system. Well im going to try the simplier method described in the second comment first. If that doesnt work then ill go try the first one. I have an Acer travelmate 3260 with the same ethernet card running iPC 10.5.6 well then ill comment back with the results. Here goes nothing!!!!
