J.F.’s Basilisk II port for the PSP is nearing the release candidate stage. Test release 20 brings forth a whole whack of improvements relating to the FPU emulation.

With Basilisk II you’re able to emulate the Mac Classic and the Mac II series running MacOS 0.x through 8.1. You’ll need to obtain both the MacOS and Macintosh ROM image separately. As well, any compatible Mac software you wish to use.

First generation PSP (Fat) owners may take advantage of J.F.’s IR keyboard implementation. There isn’t much feedback concerning IR keyboard support yet; however, I’ll report back later when I have the opportunity to test that out — likely this evening sometime. Feel free to leave your experience/feedback below.

Basilisk II Features:

  • Color video display
  • CD quality sound output
  • Floppy disk driver (only 1.44MB disks supported)
  • Driver for HFS partitions and hard files
  • CD-ROM driver with basic audio functions
  • Easy file exchange with the host OS via a “Host Directory Tree” icon on the Mac desktop
  • Ethernet driver
  • Serial drivers
  • SCSI Manager (old-style) emulation
  • Emulates extended ADB keyboard and 3-button mouse
  • Uses UAE 68k emulation or (under AmigaOS and NetBSD/m68k) real 68k processor

And

Equip your soon-to-be MacOS-enabled hand held… Quickly following the release of Test 20, J.F. — better known as Chilly Willy ’round these parts — has officially unveiled Basilisk II 1.1.0 for the PSP.

Allow me to reiterate the Basilisk II PSP features:

  • Emulates a Mac II series machine running OS 7.0.1 through 8.1, depending on the ROM used.
  • Uses UAE CPU emulation, with new SoftFloat FPU emulation for better compatibility.
  • The PSP memstick can be mounted on the Mac desktop (requires File Manager 1.2).
  • Supports on-the-fly change of colors and resolution (requires Display Manager).
  • Has stereo, 16-bit, 44kHz audio (requires Sound Manager 3.0).
  • Supports emulated floppy and CDROM with removable media (no CD audio yet).
  • Supports up to four hardfiles for use as fixed drives.
  • UDP tunnel for AppleTalk networking across WIFI (no general networking yet).
  • Emulates a Mac Extended ADB keyboard and mouse. Buttons can be remapped on-the-fly, and popular IR keyboards are supported on the Phat PSP.
  • Supports extra memory and TV out on the Slim PSP.

The official release comes very well documented. I suggest reading the PDF should you have any questions or issues. Both the binary and source archive are packaged in 7-zip format; Google that if you’re unsure how to extract the contents.

Kudos Chilly Willy, terrific work.

that is AWESOME!!!!

I remember the old days when I used to help develop PSP exploits. My team and I played a lot with that emulator. I think it's still on the PSP!

Haha lol Suprjacob. That's not Vista, I've done it before as well. Its called "pspWxp" you can grab it from CNET Downloads I think, the newer versions are styled to look like Vista. All it is is a set of HTML pages designed to look like Vista, so it feels like you are using it. Proof of this is that you can load the pspWxp files on your computer and play with miniature Vista in your web browser :) I even posted a tut on my site on how to do it :)

Now wouldn't that be awesome if you could run Vista in your PSP? Well, you can't, its impossible to run anything above Windows 95 on a PSP. However using the Bochs emulator, you can run Windows 95 (the real thing) on your PSP, but I've heard it isn't all that great. The only way you can run real XP or Vista on your PSP is to use VNC software on the PSP to connect to a real computer running XP/Vista. Go on YouTube, I saw a few videos of it being done.

Oh. Alright. I didn't know that. Hm, he had me fooled. I thought it was real Vista lol. No wonder he didn't let me look at it for too long. :P
