Daniel Felstead Posted July 22, 2008 Share Posted July 22, 2008 You can't cut paste but you can command-drag files to move them to a new folder which is basically similar to cut paste or just copy paste the original files then delete the ones you used to copy. Secondly, you can change the security settings to make it stop asking as frequently but it always asks in certain process i.e installing an application to ensure you're actually authorizing it, it's just secure really. You'll get used to it. The delete button doesn't delete files. Drag them to the trash or press command-backspace. :edit: Use this link to clarify any further keyboard shortcuts you get stuck on. NoSmokingBandit Posted October 19, 2008 Share Posted October 19, 2008 You cant cut/paste files because Steve Jobs thinks everyone is an idiot and will get confused by simple file-moving commands even though every other operating system has this function. Any time you (or a program) tries to access system files it asks for your password. There is nothing you can do about this so just deal with it and eventually you get used to it. Deleting a file requires command+Backspace because every other file command (copy, get info, duplicate, make alias, etc...) all require command+(key) and they wanted it to be uniform. Which its not because if you press Enter you will rename a file/folder which is really frustrating when every other filemanager uses enter to open a folder. The point is that you have a mac now. Your computer now does whatever Steve Jobs wants it to and Steve Jobs likes to do things in a completely ass-backward way sometimes. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
adamworthy Posted October 20, 2008 Share Posted October 20, 2008 Cut and Paste is Cmd + C then Cmd + V. The password thing is just security no idea if you can turn it off and the delete button will delete stuff but not the backspace key, so I take it you have a macbook/macbook pro or the wireless keyboard. Cmd+X is cut, but only with documents, not when navigating finder. You can try to delete a files all day long with the del key but nothing will happen. You need Cmd+Backspace.
