Hello,

I received a request for a ROM dump on my new Radeon 3870.

How do I do this ?

I have searched and only found old tools.

I will be glad to pass the ROM on to others, just tell me how to extract [dump] it.

I have a Mac Pro and just got the card, so this may help many of you that want

more compatibility.

I appreciate the help !

Bump.

You want to use a program called ATI Flash... but it only runs from DOS. Look at this link...

How to use ATI Flash

You can download ATI Flash here...

Download ATI Flash

You will want to save your BIOS to floppy... which means you need a USB floppy drive or a flash drive. I have never tried booting boot camp into DOS from either of those medium, though... only CD... but you need to boot something that you can write to.

If the mac won't boot from a USB floppy or flash drive into DOS, then you will need to plug the board into a standard PC and then use the ATI Flash DOS utility.

It's already been determined that GPU-Z doesn't work, because it runs only through Windows, letting you only see the BIOS side of the ROM, not the entire EEPROM contents - which also contains the EFI firmware.

You must use ATIFlash.

It may also be useful to connect these two macrumors threads here (the first link is for 3870 bios). Some people there (or may be they are some of us!) are trying to achieve that.

The only way it seems to be to use the pc with floppy drive and see if it give a bigger file size than what you get from GPU-Z and if EFI is extracted too. Otherwise, there doesn't seem to be a way on the mac side unless some mac gurus can figure out with their programming skills.

@Dantes,

do you have a pc with a floppy drive to work with?

Someone at macrumors forums has posted this and may work. Would you be able to give this a try?

Hello,

To fully dump the ATI rom from Windows, you can try Winflash, which you can get here:

http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads...h_2.0.1.2.html

Then, you simply open a command prompt (as Administrator in Vista), "cd" to where you extracted it and then type:

Code:

ATIWinflash.exe -i

Which will display infos about the flash type and size, would be nice if you could give us those

Code:

ATIWinflash.exe -s 0 3870.rom 20000

Which will in this case dump 0x20000 bytes of rom from adapter 0 and save it to the file 3870.rom. You'll want to change the adapter id and rom size with the values returned by the first command to be sure that the dump is clean and complete.

Also, ATIWinflash always displays a message saying "Please wait, flashing in progress", even if it's only displaying its help dialog, so don't be afraid: it won't actually flash anything in the above process ...

Here's a screenshot of it if you want to double-check the command lines I gave you (you can obtain this screen by typing "ATIWinflash.exe /?"): http://img507.imageshack.us/my.php?i...nstitreni6.png.

To OP,

If you are using leopard, please try this tool: RadeonDump.zip

Sorry that I did not have a real Mac to test. Now it turn out that seems only work on hackintosh.

To use it, cd to the files folder and type below cmds:

sudo chown -R 0:0 RadeonPCI.kext

sudo kextload -t RadeonPCI.kext

./RadeonDump -d

Upon success, it will create a ROM file with device-ID within name in that folder.

Could you please post a dmg file for the drivers from the installer cd?

Hi,

I just saw this topic.

Did someone achieve to have this ati graphics card (HD3870 Mac edition) work in a hacintosh ?

Is it possible to have its bios burned to a "regular" PC HD3870 (which costs about 85 euros at this time) to have it turned into a Mac edition ?

Many thanks.

:)

I'd allso like to know if this will work on a real mac. If I had Sapphire radeon HD 3870 toxic edition, whould this flash work on my mac pro? Toxic is about 160 euros and the real mac & pc edition of the card is 226 euros...

It's been about 1 year since last post.

Has there been some sort of secret development on this since then?

Or is it dead?

YOu can flash but you have to care about the size rom. The PC edition has a 64kb Rom but the Mac & PC edition has a 128 KB.

Are you saying that some one was successful in flashing a modified rom to fit a 64KB pc card?

And that it worked in a hackintosh?
